I got the third highest grade on my O-Chem exam...(Solid A), but I am not happy b/c it wasn't 100%. Im not proud of the fact that I am unhappy unless I am the best. Comments?
 
You should definitely be disappointed. I just got my orgo midterm back today, and I got the highest grade out of 250+ people. FAIL for you.
 
I figure I deserved that lol. I would never say this in real life, however SDN allows me a place to be completely honest/anon.

i admire your strive for perfection.
however, always be aware that there will be things you don't know.
medical school will be a great place to be humbled. So will clinical situations when you realize you can't save everyone's life, let alone know what to do, or what to say, in every situation.
its best to work on your perception of things sooner, rather than later. Or you may be in for a world of disappointment for a good long time...

I just strive for perfection for myself as well as other people. I truly hope that everybody does well, but it's never the case. We live in an imperfect world.

You know what..people like me make me sick. It is pretty lame that people exclaim their unhappiness in class when they get an A. However, I figure I post my thoughts b/c I am not really hurting anyone here (everybody on SDN has 4.0 remember?)

The question is: how (and why) do you strive for the perfection of other people? I want to be enlightened on that one. I mean if other people were perfect too, then you couldn't be better than them. F*** that sh**.

I'll give you a clue:

This man became emperor of the Roman Empire at a very young age. Like the OP, this emperor thought he was the ****. In fact, he set Rome on fire because he thought he was the ****.

I know how hard it is sometimes to be a student..I simply want all my classmates to achieve their goals.

Nero was more of a piece of ****. He used to like acting. He killed his wife because she made fun of one of his performances. He got really depressed after he killed his wife, so he castrated one of his boy-servants and made him his wife.
 
Your grades mean nothing to me. However, if you can retain the information (after the course), big-ups because you're doing what you're supposed to do...and that is LEARN!

Nah, anything less than 100% is utter crap. Med schools don't want that 99 and below trash. How'll you ever be a doctor if you're only right 99% of the time? Never, that's how. Get handy with a mop, OP. It's janitor time for you.

Good thing for motivation, but dont go overboard, for the day that you fail an exam, your confidence will shatter and you will completely go to the other extreme...that is not care about your grades anymore. Also, no one cares THAT much...I mean good for you and your G.P.A but it doesnt really do much for other people. It kinda seems like you need to have your ego checked up.

best in everything or just academics? I'm a competitive bastard, too, but at least i have athletics and music to fall back on. If someone's better than me in all 3 areas, well, they're just freaks.

my advice is don't get caught up in grades. it's an unfortunate reality of the med school admissions game, but so many premeds focus only on getting A's rather than how much they learn, or how intellectually challenged they are.

I feel like my O Chem teacher turned me into a competitive little crap. Our first test I got a 92 on, and I was happy because you know, first test, a 92... not bad right? Well I go and talk to him and APPARENTLY because I want to go to medical school I have to worry about more than just getting an A, I have to worry about my rank in the class. So I went from a kid that was happy just gettin' an A in what I thought would be the worst class of the semester, to two weeks ago when I was pissed when I got a 103/105 on our test... because one person did better than me out 200.


Moral of the story... don't get your morals from your OChem teacher. He ruined mah lyfe!

You may have aced the exam, but i still KNOW that i am smarter and better than you at most everything. Comments?
 
My Prof. also does the ranking thing..he writes his recommendations based on the final ACS exam too. From what I hear on here, it is pretty straight forward.

Not sure why all the jealous insecure punks are hating on you, but this is a good attitude to have. My motto is if you're gonna do something, do it 100% and be the best at it. Otherwise, go F yourself because no body cares about 2nd place except for.....2nd place.👍
