I just e-submitted the application with a total payment of $1660 😡

Here are the schools that I have applied so far.

Any chance?? I am an international student who transferred to UCLA from community college.

At CC, I maintained my GPA around 3.9ish and 3.8ish at 4-year-university.

Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine

Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (AZ)
University of Southern California Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry (USC)
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
Loma Linda University (LLU)
University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (UOP)
University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)
Western University of Health Sciences (WESTU)
University of Connecticut (CONN)
Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HVD)
University of Maryland (MYD)
University of Michigan (MICH)
University of Detroit Mercy (UDM)
University at Buffalo (BUF)
Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (CUL)
New York University (NYU)
Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine (CWR)
The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University (TEMP)
University of Pittsburgh (PITT)
University of Pennsylvania (PENN)

P.S. Should I request background check with my own expense?

Do you guys know how much does it cost?

Do a post bacc to bring that gpa up to a 3.99.

Also, a 23 ts is a major red flag. Thus, it may be in your best interest to pursue a phd in one of the basic sciences, and seeing that competition is going to be stiff this year, a post doc may be appropriate.

Good luck, you've got a long long road ahead of you.

With your stats, you could have saved a lot of money by applying to 10-12 well researched schools.

So tired of these troll-esque posts, even if they aren't trolling. Going to keep any blatantly negative karmic throughts as thoughts for now...

Get a background check, hell, get 5, I mean... who knows who you are! 😡

P.S. A serious response: I have to wonder if despite the incredible stats, the international status will make the guy less competitive.

OMG, you will never know how desperate I am.

Schools are not offering their seats to the international students unless their stats are really really high.

I saw many friends who were better stats than mine and failed to get into the dental school several times.

I had a friend, international student, who did not get into any dental schools even though she had 3.9 GPA and 23AA and applied for 25 schools. I am so worried 🙁

they didn't fail because of their numbers, i'm sure. either a poorly written personal statement excluded them from interviews, or a poor interview proved fatal to their application. I don't mean any offense by this, but international students are going to be working with the same patients as the domestic U.S. students...a school is going to be reluctant to invest money in an international student if he/she doesn't handle the language well and has a hard time interacting with patients. Even U.S. students who have shy/anti-social/lacking personalities are often weeded out at interviews...

All that said, you don't seem to fit that description at all. You've been at UCLA for 2 years...I'm sure you'll do fine at interviews.

This.

Let's not forget that it could also be due to poor LORs or lack of ECs. I met two international students who have been accepted to dental schools with ~3.3 GPA and ~20 DAT. Adcoms have higher standards for international applicants, but gaining admissions with international status isn't impossible. The key is to be a well-rounded applicant. If your GPA/DAT is slightly on the lower end, you'll have to make it up with good LORs, PS and ECs.

Finally to YoonS, your numbers are fine. And there's no need to do a background check at the moment. Just finish up your secondary applications, sit back and relax.

Absolutely! It's really tough for internationals (non-Canadians) to get accepted. Better safe than sorry...you certainly want to avoid having to waste a yr, not to mention the money of having to apply again.

Good Luck!

Please do not rely too much on your numbers. As you learned from your friend, numbers are not everything they consider when they select applicants. So I can't tell you anything about your chance given just those numbers you provided. Under the assumption that you have decent EC, LOR, PS and language skill, your numbers are more than enough to get you interview from many schools you applied to, but numbers do not guarantee anything beyond that point. Keep in mind, adcoms are interested in recruiting well-rounded applicants, not the best test takers, which is often overlooked by Korean International applicants.
