To anyone who is already in dental school- what has been the biggest challenge for you?

I'm a little concerned with the fact that I won't have time to study during the day. In undergrad, I would study in the day, and take it easy at night. Doesn't look like I'll be able to do that here. Any other challenges that you were or were not expecting?

BU students especially, I'd love to hear from you!

indirect vision, hands down.

yeah classes suck, and you spend a lot of time studying for things that you will never ever ever ever need again after first year and boards (anything in biochemistry, a lot of anatomy (except head and neck), immuno...), but that's just a matter of buckling down.

I have been practicing working in a mirror for weeks, and i still find myself ripping through cusps, burying the bur in prep walls when trying to remove the handpiece, nicking proximal teeth, the list goes on... then you have to remove the dam, chuck the tooth, and get out another to start all over (and the teeth run ~ $2 a piece at our Schein store). pretty frustrating, but i hear it gets better after lots of practice :xf:

still, i feel like its gonna be a while before i get a hang of it.

edit - as far as study time goes, its up to you. if you want to get all As, be prepared for a lot of loooong nights. Otherwise, pick your battles and get through like most of us!

there is always something to study and class all day so you can only study at night. I totally agree that indirect vision is really difficult but it does get better will A LOT of practice.
