i know the general rule of thumb is to apply early. can anyone give me a ball bark time period that is considered early? i've already submitted my primary on july 14 and i'm waiting to have it verified. is this late? is this early? or is this sort of when everyone applies?

You are in a good position. Early goes in stages..........

There's super early (generally the people who are either reapplicants or took the MCAT a year before planning on applying) This is around the June 1st date. Then there's semisuper early which is mid June to the end of June.

Then there's early but not super or semisuper early and this would be the July to early August range. Then there's late which is mid August to September.

Then there's super late, which is dependent on the school's deadline but would be the Oct to December range.

Ok now that I'm done rambling..............

You are in a good position because you are still ahead of many of the August MCATers and what not. You'll be ok as long as you submit it now in the summer rather then waiting for fall time.

A couple of admissions people from different schools defined "early" as having your file complete before Sept 1st, I assume that means Letters of Rec. and Secondary Application.

yah which means that July 14th for AMCAS isn't bad, cuz they'll still have the secondaries in enough time that they can get the rest of it done before that deadline.

That date would make sense too, because most med schools begin interview season in September. There are a few exceptions to this such as NJMS EDP program and Texas schools. But in general, most start interview season in September, so that would make sense.
