Hey there fellow pre-do's

I am wondering about a couple of things. How do adcoms look at graduate work? I have a BS and MS in psychology and am wondering if they figure and how they figure in graduate gpa's?

Also, I have to take physics 1 and 2 and orgo 1 and 2 (starting on monday) so I am applying next summer. can you submit all of your application stuff in june since I will be finished with the classes, but still not have taken the mcat's? How much time should one leave for prep after finishing the prereq's/ I here applying early is the best thing so I am just wondering how to negotiate this?

and, worst case scenario I end up with b's in the final four classes adn have only a 2.8 science gpa. best case I get a's and have a 3.3 science gpa. If the latter should occur, how does one raise there science gpa? I have 2 c's so far, one in gen bio 1 and gen chem 2?

Lastly, how many letters of rec are needed and from whom do you ask?

You guys rock. thanks for the help!

I also just wanted to comment on th do vs md thing. it is the same with np's and pa's too! All the mudslinging is so unecessary. At the end of the day, once you have a job and you are doing cartwheels because you are finally done with school, no one could give a rat's ass if you are md, do, or pa np. what is the deal with people? It's like two different schools of thoughts, same job duties in the end and neither are discernable from eachother. But, I guess people can just continue converting oxygen into carbon dioxide and aid in global warming and the greenhouse effect 🙂

-Your graduate and undergraduate GPA's will be calculated separately.
-The only way to raise your science GPA is to take more Biology, Chemistry, and Physics classes (you could also do a post-bac or SMP, but these would be calculated separately)
-If you would like to apply next summer, the latest MCAT you should take is in August
-Amount of study time varies, but make sure you have at least a month of good study time
-You can study for the MCAT w/out taking all the pre-reqs, if you want and have the time, b/c they cover all the material you need to know
-LOR requirements vary from school to school, but a good starting point is to get the following: 2 science faculty recs, 1 non-science faculty, 1 DO or MD rec (preferably DO)

For more info check the FAQ at the top of the forum and visit www.aacom.org, choose the "Apply to Medical School" link which will give you access to all the schools their deadlines, fees, requirements, etc.

Good luck.
