Hey all
This query is in response to our discussion in the PICU ( my last call).
Basically we couldnt come to conclusion so we decided to get help from fellow SDNers. Who do u think makes more fresh out of residency ( major cities) amongst Neonatology, PICU, Cardiology( and approximately how much). What is the progression say 5 years after residency
Please no rants about importance of money in this profession as we love peds and thats why we are here.
online salary surveys vary a lot. We were wondering to have some first hand information as its difficult to ask the attendings how much moolah they make 🙂

My guess is Neos. The is based mostly on anecdotes -- Army neos telling me how much they will make on the outside when they finish up. But also based on demand. Look in the back of pediatrics some month and count the ads. I'll be 75% are for neos. Here's another thing, too. There are many neo jobs in non-academic centers. PICU pays very well for private groups, but less so with academic (as all specialties do). I would guess that the percentage of PICU docs in academic settings is much higher than for NICU, but that just my guess. I don't know about cards.
