Hi guys,

So I got 222 on step 1. Weirdly all my nbmes and uwsa was in 240s .so there is a 20 marks deviation. I'm so low and depressed. Can anyone tell my if I can still make up for it in step 2??? In just so terribly depressed. Just feeling paralyzed. Any suggestions or motivation would help me out immensely. Will step 1 score weed me out of interviews?

I can understand how you're feeling. If you're an IMG like me, then a lower Step 1 can have bad mental impact (I also scored in the 220s). But I'm hearing more and more programs are giving CK increased importance. Make up for it with a solid showing on CK and you'll be in great shape. The absolute worst thing you can do is not move on from Step 1 and allow it to impact your remaining exams. You've made it this far. Now bring it home. You got this.

Right there with you, only I got a 211. Absolutely devastated and I will admit my motivation slowed some and I have gotten behind the pace I wanted to be going at for studying for my shelf exam in 3 weeks.

Best advice I’ve gotten is that this score doesn’t define you. What’s done is done and you have to move forward. Focus on doing well on your clerkships and killing Step 2.

Depends on what you want to do and where you are for medical school--for certain specialties, a slightly below average score shouldn't hold you back much. Would, however, recommend taking CK before mid-August of your application year and trying to score at least a 240 no matter what you want to do.

An excellent step 2 can definitely make up for it. But I'm sorry your real exam was lower than practice. That's hard.

Just wanted to chime in that you're not alone, I scored 14 points lower than my last NBME taken a week before and 13 points lower than my lowest practice test. I think it's easy on this site to get caught up thinking everyone does so much better than their practice tests, but there are always people on the opposite side of that. Nothing to do now but try to regroup for step 2.
