Hello All,

I Just Got Accepted into NYCOM on 1/24/13 (NYIT-COM). (GPA 3.6, mcat 29)
They received my deposit and transcripts already and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what happens next? What should I do in the mean time?

Thanks

Drink, travel, engage in debauchery avoiding the law, and make $$.

Nothing. You won't hear from them again until late summer.

You don't think im getting a welcome package soon?

What should I do in the mean time?

Hmm from what I recall, you get your acceptance letter with some other papers... Then maybe some financial aid stuff in the summer, and maybe an orientation letter in the summer but that's about it, unless they change stuff around for you guys.

Enjoy your time off!

Can some one please tell me if NYIT gives free stuff like ipads/laptops and is there somethings ill need to buy like dissection kits?

thanks

Has anybody tried sending out Announcements like you might have done after graduating high school or college? Not sure if it works for getting into med school but sending out "Support ___ in Med School Fund" cards sounds like a great idea. I wish I had thought of that sooner!

Nope and you won't need to buy anything for anatomy except a good atlas and the grants dissector. Oh and buy nice comfy headphones since you will basically be streaming lectures all the time.

Not sure if those curved pointy scissors come standard with a dissecting kit... I had to buy my own pair separately.

No schools give free stuff. However, many schools will constantly remind you of how generous they are to you with your own money.

Pursue something else. Tuition is going to be $50 a year by the time you come in.

I always think its a good idea to go on another interview. Who knows, you may like the school more. I know nothing about PCOM but only hear great things about their residency programs and clinical affiliations, but really know nothing else so can't offer much other advice. Def. go on the interview and check out the school, etc. If you get accepted to PCOM, then you'll have the cool choice of choosing between two great schools and making a decision that best suits you. Having another choice for med school never hurts, so yes, go on the interview, and see what you like.

Good luck!

FYI ..PCOM is a much older school which may also imply better connections, better name recognition, etc. Just sayin'. Plus, if campus appearance and facilities matters to you (based on what I see on the website), PCOM >>> NYCOM.
