I just finished my first Junior year semester as or right now, counting this semester I have a 3.96 and this past summer I took that DAT's and got a 21AA, so I'm prettty happy about these aspects of my application but i have some questions concerning the other parts. First off when should I start applying for D school? the main school i'm looking at is VCU. Second how important are community service hours? I dont have many so far, i know for VCU you need 100 shadowing hours but does that count as community service too? And last, I've got a upcoming opportunity to sit down with a dentist and talk about possible summer intership or working experience, what kinds of things can a person do in a dental office? please share any experieces you have working in a dental office or any suggestions about looking for a job in a office. I know this is long and if you can answer any of these questions i'd really appreciate it.

Hey man, you're in fantastic shape right now. Take a deep breath, because you're ahead of the game compared to most with those DAT scores and GPA. That said, you definitely should do some community service. I'd suggest finding a nearby boys and girls club, soup kitchen, ronald mcdonald house, etc that you can volunteer at regularly for ~5 hours a week (say, 2.5 twice a week or 2 hours a day, 3 times a week), and by the end of next semester you'll have easily over 100 volunteer hours to call your own. Working with kids is also fun as hell, and you can always count on those awesome little 8 year olds to think you're the coolest kid ever 😉

Shadowing is not the same as community service, but if you get this internship over the summer you can most likely count that as shadowing hours. Maybe someone else can chime in to clarify or confirm that.

yea thats a good idea man I really need to do that, I like working with kids too so i'll try and get something together. Congrads on your scores, they are very solid.
