Hey guys,

So here's the deal, I'm currently a sophomore in a small private college in a big city. I am a biochemistry major and have a cGPA=3.33 and sGPA=3.5 after my first year. I am slightly worried about this current semester because Im struggling in calc 3 (currently have a C). This grade might drop further and im considering dropping the course to take a W rather than a low grade. Whats your take on this? I have a decent amount of ECs going, 3 research groups (1 with Ivy dental school, 1 with Ivy med school, 1 on campus), chem club, D3 mens volleyball. Would these ECs balance out a low calc 3 grade to increase my chance of acceptance to D school?

Sincerely,

Stressed out pre-dent

Why are you taking calc 3? I would take the W if you're worried about it because i'm pretty sure no dental school requires more than 2 semesters of calculus.

Take the W. Drop ASAP

Because I have to take pchem senior year and calc 3 is recommended, i figured it would give me an upper hand but turns out is its a lot harder than I thought

I would also recommend that you consider dropping one or two of your extracurriculars. Sure, they look good, but if your grades have to suffer because you are so busy, then they really aren't worth it.

I took Pchem1 and you dont need cal 3, just know your derivative and integration.

If you are going to do worse than a C/C+ just drop imo... in the future don't take hard classes that aren't absolutely required for your major or dental school. You are just making it tougher on yourself and risking your GPA

Drop it...and change your major to biology, if your GPA will continue to drop. Don't take classes like this that D schools could care less about or don't increse your knowledge to help you become a better dental student.
...moreover, 3 research groups?! unless you really like doing so much research, 1 groups would suffice UNLESS you are really trying to find something like curing cancer...
Balance out everything, your EC's, grades,DAT etc.....right now it seems your EC's are taking over your academics.

Contact your academic advisor on your current situation and what your long-term goals are. He or she should be able to tailor and structure a trajectory for your path that is well-balanced and suited for your goals.
