for those who took the kaplan midterm, how would you compare that to the actual DAT?

I just took the Kaplan full-length DAT that came with the book. I haven't taken the real DAT but my scores for the Kaplan were:

Bio: 19 (I missed a lot of crap about plants...never took botany or anything that would have taught that stuff)
GChem: 20
Orgo: 20
PAT: 19
RC: 22
QR: 25


Hopefully, I can boost my scores up for the real one.

how are these scores compared to the real deal? i dont have much time left!!
i seem to always run out of time trying to do those dayam gen chem calculations and my math is not my greatest asset.

Anyone take the kaplan course and the real thing??

i haven't taken the real thing, but i've noticed some of the SNS questions on kaplan are downright ridiculous. I've been scoring 18s and 19s on achiever ochem, and i can't seem to crack 15 on a kaplan ochem section, even though i KNOW MY STUFF. AAAAAAAAHHHGHGHG!

from what i hear, the sciences and math on kaplan are harder than the real thing, so you should be fine. Highest i've gotten on one of these kaplan tests so far is a 20AA, stupid ochem section...

good to hear, some of the questions do seem ridiculous and are formatted in a way to be tedious and time consuming. I hope the real DAT's questions seem more fast paced where you just know an go to the next

Yeah, I noticed the same thing, especially with Gen Chem. The calculations are too time-consuming and I have to skip them, otherwise I would miss a lot of easy orgo questions! I noticed this for practice tests in general. I can tell you for a fact, going to write this bad boy for the second time a week from Sat, the real G Chem is a joke, its much easier, I just gotta make sure I don't make careless mistakes. I also notice, the G Chem on practice tests in general are a lot harder & much more tedious, & time-consuming

I wasn't quite studying during my Kaplan class (I did that once it was over). So on the midterm I got a 17 AA/16 TS. Not sure what I got on the midterm PAT since the online services won't let me check anymore. Anyway, I did better than that on the real thing so I wouldn't worry too much about the midterm. I've heard from a lot of people that Kaplan makes it the hardest one of their tests.

They're online. I forget where exactly, but I think maybe Reading Comprehension 2 on the online syllabus?

so i talked to my kaplan teacher, and according to her...if you're scoring around 17 on any given section, you should be getting around 21 on that same section on the real exam. according to her atleast...

evidently they use some of the same questions for their mcat, dat, and even board prep exams (i.e. the midterm being adressed here) so some of their stuff is harder than what we'll see on test day

yea time is flying, my exams on monday haha so it figures it would be.

I also talked to the kaplan tutors about any correlation to the kaplan practice exams and they told me that it is very accurate and that I will get roughly the same scores as the practice tests. They told me that if I want to hit a 20 on the DAT that I should aim for atleast 22 on the practice exams. Im sure that cant be true...someone give me some reassurance haha. Im hoping to hit atleast hit 20's on this exam. Havent gotten a 20 in any practice yet except of course PAT and one SNS section.

there seems to be a +3 correlation between the kaplan and the real deal, from what i've observed. A friend of mine got 19 on her kaplan final and a 22 on the real deal, others on sdn have scored 3 or 4 points higher on the real deal (one chick got 15 on her final and a 19 on the real deal evidently), so you should be fine


either way, study your ass off, you're almost done!

Hey Electron, that sounds like bs to me, I don't know, but, my kaplan teacher said people tend to go up from their practice exams, because the Real McCoy is much easier than kaplan. On Rc online full-length # 1, I got a 15, on the real deal last year, I got an 18, so I'm living proof. I got a 16 on Rc online full-length # 2, so we'll see what happens next week.

By the way, how is your studying going?

Thanks for the advice and insight. I was thinking BS to. Studying has been alright. Im just trying to figure out my weak areas and solidify material. Trying to focus instead of reading microfibrils and thinking i just read myosin...haha
Seems like most of you guys already took the exam, hope you guys are enjoying the last few week or 2 of summer...ill be right there with you guys in a bit!

i took the kaplan midterm last month and didnt do very well... ive heard that the kaplan stuff is much harder than the DAT, but try not to count on that too much.. my test is friday and i still cant get my gchm score to go up.. i really hope that the gchm section is easier like everyone here has been saying, or else im screwed! good luck to you on your test monday!
