I've done several searches to see if this has been discussed and haven't seen anything. So, I'm wondering if anyone has taken the ~$800 premium online Kaplan course? I am several hundred miles away from a Kaplan study center so that seems to be my best option to get some structure to my studying. However, I'm leery about paying that much for an online course. If anyone has taken it and has some advice I would appreciate it. Thanks

The Kaplan online course is new. Kaplan just switched to a new curriculum (fyi, which is actually mainly like the old stuff with a few minor changes like a few new strategies and quizzes). Most folks here will tell you that the subject test questions are the most valuable component of the curriculum...and you get those with the online course. I'm not sure if you get the three tests (diagostic, midterm, and final), but I imagine you do. What you don't get is the live instructor...a lot of folks don't think the live instruction is that good, but I think it depends on who your instructor is. But at any rate, personally, I think the $800 is worth it for the questions alone. Oh, you also get powerpoint type presentations on the lesson material. They used to have an online video series, but they took that away because of the new curriculum. I'm told they will have the online video series eventually, but that's not the case right now.

Don't consider it an online course...it won't be one. It'll be more as if you get access to the test questions for a period of time (3 months I think).

Thanks for the info, I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it for no other reason than my lack of options. I just need a bit of structure.

Personally I'm glad I bought the online course. My only regret is that I didn't get it sooner. What's cool about the online course is that you get tape-recorded sessions that you can replay (a major advantage to live sessions). In addition, there is a substantial amount of practice tests with well-written explanations (not just the answers). And the biggest perk? I don't have to spend hours of my time walking/driving to Kaplan or need to force myself to pry my eyes open during elementary and redundant topics, i.e. "How to draw a Lewis dot" or "What is an integer?"

Since I have yet to take the DAT, I'm unable to determine the actual worth of the online course. Luckily I was able to get a $100 discount by purchasing a $30 membership to the UCLA Student Alumni Association. You may want to call your local Kaplan and ask if there are any special deals floating around, if money is a issue.

I just finished the in-class course a few months ago and had i known they were going to offer the online version I would have waited and taken that. The classes are a big waste of time. The most important thing is the DAT review notes book and the test bank. I would do the online coures.

Can you buy the materials presented in the classroom and online separately like the lesson book with homework assignments? I'm just wondering because I'm tight with money right now...

I asked Kaplan if I could get some sort of a discount since I already had the Kaplan blue book and they said no. But I would call them 1-800 KAPTEST to find out if there are any deals. Arg, I totally feel the whole financial crunch. I predict a wave of babysitting jobs to offset the cost of this online course...
