I am planning to take the DAT (Candian) in November, and I want to start studying because I am terrible at cramming.

My question is, what is the best studying strategy to take the DAT?

I was thinking of taking the Kaplan course--register for the class that is offered in Vancouver and just make use of the online portion of it since I cant go to vancouver. Do you guys think that's a good idea? For those of you who have taken Kaplan, is it worth $1099? or should I just buy that thick kaplan book from Chapters or something and study on my own? Also, would it be enough to just study through one book (800+ pages)? Are there any other courses that you would say were more effective than Kaplan?

How did you guys prepare for your DAT? and was it effective?

Kaplan classes r always definitely worth it but why pay $1000 to hear the same thing that u would if u just bought their book for $50-80 and wiki wat ur not sure about. DAT destroyer is also a good resource.
If u feel more comfortable in classroom setting tho...hey! Ur dough!

If I could do it over I'd skip out on the classroom portion and just get the material. I don't think the classroom is worth it but the material is -- just my opinion.

I took the class and the only advantage over just studying the bluebook that I found were the online practice tests. You could buy the bluebook for studying and programs like Topscore for the practice tests.

Don't take the class--I am taking it now, honestly not worth it. Just get some discipline and you will be fine.

Buy the materials and get topscore and achiever tests to practice.

I am currently taking the online class. It is nothing like the Kaplan blue book out for sale for $65. You get much more for the 1K online class. As everyone has stated, the questions are what makes the online course different. Both the blue book and the readings given from the online class are garbage because they are so general, but a plethora of questions are given. Honestly, probably not worth the 1K.

Kaplan online is worth it. The blue book that you can get in the store is a joke. The course has a lot more material and is very helpful because it has practice tests. If you are just going for material and dont want to spend the money dont get kaplan but do not even think about only using that blue book you can get at the store.

the kaplan online is well worth it. The class isn't worth a damn. Just pay for the online only and save a couple hundred bucks.

are you working or taking school in the next 2 months. The kaplan course in Canada is crap, the one at bloor st. Just buy the materials or get it off a friend, use Barron's for the PAT because its on paper, which is how your test is gonna be. As for reading, you can find loads of practice with kaplan.
