Hey everyone, i dont know if this was discussed before, but if it was i didnt see it. For anyone who took kaplan, how were you doing on the practice tests before the actual mcat. i did really well on practice test 3, but significantly worse on test 5. It's really kind of frustrating to have my scores bounce around like that. any thoughts from people who took kaplan on how the scores on each of the practice tests compare to the real thing? thanks 🙂

Hi jordews,
If i remember correctly, my highest score was on test 3...9,11,13. My scores bounced around the 30 range. However, as i posted somewhere else, my final result was haphazard (8,14,11), though it was the same combined score as test 3.

Hang in there tite dood. 😉

my scores kind of bounced around too. i don't remember exactly what i got on each individual test (i took both kaplan and MCAT several years ago) but i remember thinking that kaplan's science sections (both bio and phys) were a LOT harder than the real thing--i got a *6* on physical sciences on the last kaplan test i took before taking the real thing!! my scores went up in those sections on the real thing.

i wouldn't worry too much. just keep plugging away and you'll be fine!

whew...i have taken kaplan practice tests too and my scores are all over the place from test to test...at least i'm not alone!

kornphan, have you taken the real mcat before, or are you planning on taking it in august? We need to get a thread started for all of us august mcat'ers. The test is in 2 weeks, and we need a place to rally. what do ya think? 🙂

i haven't taken the mcat yet...i'm taking it in august...we should definately start a thread for the august mcat takers...good luck on the exam!

jordews...quick question...how are you preparing in these final two weeks before the mcat...thanks!

kornphan,
check out my reply to your post over in the everyone forum. How are you going about studying for the nest two weeks?

I took Kaplan this spring. My full-length scores went up, maxed at test 3, and then went down. The variation was about 4 points total between the best and the worst.

I did significantly better on my real MCAT than I did on any of the practice tests. I scored 6 points higher than my best Kaplan score (which was on full-length 3).

Hang in there. I would suggest taking AAMC practice tests III and IV. You can order V online from AAMC, and I think it is half-price if you buy it within two weeks of the test (so $20). The AAMC tests were more consistent with what the real the MCAT looked like (easy physical, harder biological). My AAMC scores were very consistent with my actual score.

HTH,

Pam

I took Kaplan this spring as well and went up significantly on the real MCAT. (almost all on the verbal actually.) I actually went up 4-6 points from my highest Kaplan diagnostics which blew my mind. However, unlike previous posters, my practice tests were fairly uniform. I had the same overall score on each of the last 3 diagnostics before taking the real exam. My individual scores did waver somewhat however from test to test. However, if you take Kaplan seriously and do the practice items, you WILL be prepared on test day. Relax and you'll do fine. Personally, I went up 10-13 points from my original diagnostic and my girlfriend went up 14 points!! Focus and do the work and you will do great.

Kaplan tests are harder in both absolute and relative terms. I averaged a 33 on Kaplan tests, 36-39 on AAMC and got a 36 on the april '01. I have yet to know someone who averaged higher on Kaplan than on the practice AAMC's or the real thing (without completely screwing up).

My 3.14159 cents.

i think that the Kaplan science-sections are fairly accurate as to the actual MCAT. i think though that kaplan's verbal is scored easier that the actual MCAT
