Hello,

I plan to take this test in 1 month, before I begin postbac classes for upper-level sciences.

BUT it's been a while since I've taken the required courses, and I want to use time to maximum effectiveness, so I'm willing to pay for the private tutoring. My requirement grades are lackluster, but I'm going to give it 110% on this test. The private tutoring is quite expensive, but if it will save me time, it's definitely worth the price.

Kaplan has 15, 25, and 35 hour private tutoring packages. I'm thinking that the 15 hour will be OK... what's your take on this??

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Just read review and read some more.
As far as I know, the instructors in kaplan aint very good.
Their practice are essential.
Seriously, I wont consider tutoring hours, but just buy the kaplan review book and read over it, especially you have only 1 month left. Please be ready or you can always postpone your test till the summer.

I wouldn't mess with the private tutoring. If anything, take the class, but I would consider that a waste of money as well. Study on your own.

i think private tutoring is expensive as well....i took the course..it was ok...still pricey...but what really did it for me was just the amount of time i studied for it... about 2 1/2 months..i work full time also to give you an idea.

if you're not pressed for getting test scores for this application cycle, i'd seriously recommend waiting until later to take the test.. why not in the summer? say early june or july..that way your apps are on the way..and only ur test scores have to follow...

also...don't want to sound condescending or anything.. but spending more money doens't automatically equate to higher test scores... if you say that it has been a while since you've looked at this stuff, you're definitely gonna need more time. hope that helps..

Thanks so much for the insight. This site is the best ... People give it straight!

I'll be taking the DAT in the first week of Feb, 04. Although I will be using KAPLAN's review notes and tests, I'm not going to spend my money on private tutoring. I have been a members of SDN for a while and here's what I've learned from all the members who scored above 20 :

1. Learn to manage your time.
2. Memorize, understand, and apply all the concepts, facts, and formulas that's in the KAPLAN's review notes.
3. Use Kaplan's practice tests, TOPScore and AP Chem or bio for additional practice.
4. Use other resources ( ex. textbooks, EK ..etc ) only if you don't understand something or need clarifications.
5. Share your wisdom with other members.
