whatsup sdn, im relatively new to this site... theres some good info on here tho, so ive been learning quite a bit

just had a question about kaplan for anyone whos familiar with the course

on the initial kaplan diagnostic, i went in blind without ever have studied any mcat stuff and got a 23... on the first full length mcat test we just had my score has gone up to around 30... so i was wondering, after the first full length, did anyones score increase much more? or slightly more? or not at all even...

ive been doing the kaplan topical tests, etc and doing the review readings before my classes... im thinking about doing the full length section tests and watching the videos as well... did anyone else find those to be helpful?

thanks for any advice uve got...

Hi Deez,

Welcome to SDN! I am a Kaplan instructor and think you've made a great choice choosing Kaplan - I must say that a 23 on the Kaplan Daignostic is a quite good score. The Diagnostic and all the Kaplan FullLengths are very simira to the actual MCAT. Most students who come to the Lessons and do the Practice items usually see an overall doubledigit score increase. Usually, most students see the biggest score increase on the 2nd or 3rd FullLength. So, you doing awesome - You've got a great shot at getting into the mid to high 30s on Test Day. Good Luck!!

dude, there's no way to predict what you'll get, theres another thread on here that people break down their diagnostic vs. their actual score. You should take the time to introduce yourself to the search feature, its quite amazing.
dmb is a bit optomistic. I scored a 24 on my kaplan diagnostic and also got a 30 on my first full length, but i sure as hell didn't get a mid to high 30 score on the real deal. maybe its because once i got the 30s, i pretty much quit studying, i dunno.

How long did it take you to get back your scores on your full lengths from kaplan? I took my first one Saturday (3 days ago) and am anxious to hear how I did.....I only got a 25 on the diagnostic, so I'm hoping to improve significantly. Thanks for your help.

Haha...don't worry folks, i got a 19 on my diagnostic and ended up ok. But i also studied in the summer and that's all i did so it was much easier. Remember too that the Kaplan material (with the exception of verbal) is much harder than the real deal, esp the physical science section. Good luck. You'll do fine

I also teach for Kaplan, and from my experience scores go up quite significantly from the diagnostic. Given, a lot depends on your studying, etc. And I think scores also tend to improve after the midterm, once you've finished all the classes.

Mostly, look for your scores to even out eventually. That will give you a pretty good (but not perfect) estimation of how you'll score on the real test.

Good luck! 🙂

thanks for all the input... the kaplan library is probably what i find most useful, since its got such a wide variety of subject matter..

i was pleasantly surprised, b/c all the kaplan topical tests are hard as nuts, but the full-length was hella easier than that... so hopefully i'll improve some more in the next month before the mcats  ...

i plan on living in the library, but its tough since ive got all my regular classes too 🙄

The diagnostic is not indicative of the real test whatsoever. It is solely a tool to wake you up and convince you to study (also to convince you to shell out the cash for a class). Don't worry about it.

I think it is very rare for scores to vary more then 3 points on the full lengths. To predict that you will be in the mid to upper thirties is ridiculous based on the fact that we know nothing about you.

As far as scoring goes. Keep your score sheet. Go to your test center directly after the exam and have it scored.

Im also a Kaplan instructor and pretty much it works like this you put in the time your score will be reflective of that. Starting at 23 is nothing to worry about but getting a 30 is not saying your set. To me i consider the diagonastic a kick in the butt and test 1 one of the easiest though all are said to be of comparable difficulty. Just keep the studying going and you'll be fine. If you need more detailed help in what to approach using Kaplan materials PM me.

wait, the mcat is scaled right... so then it shouldnt matter if the test is easy or hard, only how well you did compared to your fellow premed footsoldiers...

or maybe ive just got it all confused... remind to lay off the crackpipe for a while
