Has anyone tried the kaplan verbal reasoning practice tests?

is it just me or are they insanely hard????? I barely finished 7 out of the 9 passages, that too Not once but twice!!!

I did number verbal 3 yesterday and it was insane, never ended up finishing it. 7 out of 9 is pretty good, i did 6. Yes, verbal is very discouraging, i guess at this stage just keep practicing as many as you can get our hands on. Apply the strategy that seems to work for you and hope for the best.

I've done 1-8 so far. I found 1 to 6 to be somewhat manageable, but 7 and 8 to be much harder than the previous ones and my scores took a nose dive.

People keep saying the Kaplan verbal is easy compared to the real thing, but I think they maybe just talking about the ones on the full lengths.

I took the Kaplan course, and I agree with silkworm, it seems to vary by test. Especially if you get subject passages that you aren't interested in, that makes a huge difference and can eat up a lot of your time just getting through it. I found myself cut short a few times, but on test day, I was fine. Good luck!

Are you guys talking about 13 verbal sectional tests Kaplan offers?

I have done 10 so far, and found 7-8-9 to be the hardest.

Just a word to the wise... I took the Kaplan course to prepare for the April MCAT. I did very well on every full-length verbal section. However, I significantly went down on the real exam. The Kaplan exams are much easier than the real administration, especially the verbal and the biology sections. Also, I received two R's on the writing sample for Kaplan but ended up with an M on the real exam. In my opinion, Kaplan lacks the depth and intensity of the real thing. When you take a MOCK exam you are alloted way too many incorrect answers and still acheive 9's and 8's. Those are equal to 6's and 7's on actual MCAT.

I purchased some Priceton materials and found them to be much more resourceful! I'm sitting for the August administration so hopefully I'll improve. This will be my 2nd attempt at the "Meaningless College Academic Test"! Good luck to all.

I agree with you. I never had lower than 9 on verbal with Kaplan, but ended up with 6 in April exam. (i admit, i did not do verbal sectional tests first time around, just the full lengths).

But did you try the 13 stand alone verbal sections? I just took the full length #1 and the verbal on it seems easier than those.

those tests are very very hard. I got so discouraged after I took those, but then my friend recommended me to take real AAMC test, and that made me feel better.

I just done Kaplan's Verbal practice #9. I think it's safe to say that these ones can be as tough as anything else.

Here is my verbal efforts so far:

For EK 101, done 8 passages, average about 6 questions wrong.

AAMC 3R, 5R, roughly 5-6 quesitons wrong each.

For Kaplan verbal stand-alone #7 - #9, average about 13 questions wrong.

So don't summarily dismiss Kaplan out of hand.

Yea - I got -18 on the first test, and -9 on the second.

And I wasn't even timing myself.

You know - I think if you find benefit from these (and I do) then you'll be better prepared on August to score a 45T.
