KCU says they want 13 hrs. of Chem on their pre-reqs... that's 3 courses with 1 lab each, and then 1 extra credit hour.

So, that means: 2 inorganic, 1 organic, (labs inclusive) and then 1 more credit hour from somewhere?

Can someone help me piece this together? Thanks.

8 gen chem + 8 ochem will satisfy the requirements. Most schools require ochem 2 + its lab as a requirement.

You may also want to give them a call if you have any questions about a specific situation. IIRC, they do give the option of using biochem to replace some organic credits (if, say, you took general organic instead of organic 1&2). They're very responsive and super helpful with these kinds of questions and can give you quick answers over the phone in most cases. Good luck!

Sup guys. Thanks for responding.

I've seen this as a rule of thumb for other med schools, and was confused when they didn't require 2 orgos. As someone who is deathly afraid of physics and orgo in my future, I just wanted to make sure whether or not I needed orgo 2 (obviously I would for other schools, but KCU).

"IIRC"? That's very useful, but as I said above I'd more likely than not be taking orgo 1+2 either way :/
Could I, say, replace a B in one of the orgos with the biochem grade?

IIRC = "If I Recall Correctly"

I must have misunderstood your situation. If you're still a year or more out from applying, then yeah, absolutely you should take orgo 1&2, as that is what many schools require. As far as the grade replacement goes, I very highly doubt it. It's really more of a "biochem covers enough organic generally to count as an organic class" (assuming the biochem class covers lipid metabolism, intermediates, etc.) than a "you can replace an organic grade with a biochem class" since they're two completely different classes with sometimes overlapping content.

I'm a rising junior but I just started taking prereqs this semester (and still have all but 1 to go). So yeah, it's a bit of a ways out.

I will be attending KCU this August and took 8 hours of gen chem, 4 hours of ochem, and 4 hours of biochem to satisfy the requirement.

Where all did you apply if you don't mind me asking? You can pm if you like
