KCUMB Class of 2018

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OS will probably be 35ish like the other exams. PCM I'm calling 80 +/- 5 questions. It's only scheduled for 2 hours so they can't make it more than 90ish questions.

I'm hoping it's like 30 max. And it's like the most recent quiz, but they add like 10 questions on for the lecture stuff.

PCM is going to just wreck me, I'm afraid. Go through all 18.5 weeks of material!? Seriously?! Blargh.

The midterm was brutal enough. Having a cumulative final is ridiculous. I'm just aiming for a pass right now (seriously, this should be my motto).

Principals of clinical medicine. We learn stuff like how to do a check up or what tests to do... anterior draw test, sulcus sign, speed's test.. etc

Thanks, @chizledfrmstone. Perhaps that's the new name for what we used to call OCS (osteopathic clinical skills - it was a combo of OMM + "regular physical exam stuff")

Sounds like you guys are in the throws of exam week -- good luck!

Kind of? Osteopathic Skills is a separate class now, but they usually correlate the classes pretty well.

Yeah, second years still have OCS, but for us they split them in to two courses.

God damn first names of researchers!! And an X-ray....good stuff. Otherwise, not so bad. Yay.

I switched 3 of my answers in the last minute. All 3 were wrong. FML... Sigh... PCM and we're free for 2 weeks.

So glad there weren't any freaking Chapman's points, totally worth not looking over.
There weren't any right? hah

Hahaha I reached my "don't care attitude" for that OS test. Definitely missed 5 or so questions. Seems like we're the non-gunners of the class. No chapmans for sure I think....

So I have a question for you guys hoping someone can help me so that I can focus on studying tonight. I have never had to rely on the curve to pass, so I don't know how this works. I see the average for the final is 76.6 %. But what is the final percentage for the class? I am asking because the practical was over 85% is it a weighed average? Or just combine and divide?

There is a 5.97% curve if I did the math right (and heaven knows what can happen with ma' brain this week). Just add that on your overall percentage and you'll know where you stand.

I have a theory as to why our test averages are so high. Half the class are gunners while the other half are just trying to survive. Gunners score 90s on exams while regular folk score in the 60s. It's a bimodal distribution.

I think there were a lot of mid-70s grades on this one though. The 3 or 4 'gunners' I know (people that usually get A's or A-) all scored low 80's on this one. Highest grade I heard was an 84. I'd actually be really interested to see the distribution on this one...

Ok. Thanks guys. I just need 2%. I never want to be in this position again! More stress than I can handle!

This is the problem with having a ~200 point block.

Imagine opening up that final and realizing a majority of the material being tested is your weakness.

Yep. I actually think I would have done better if I just ignored patho, biochem, and immuno during studying. I think I missed about 30 from just those topics.

BTW, does anyone know if renal is more physiology or memorization? I'm thinking of studying 1-2 hours a day during break to kinda prep for renal.

Did you buy the app for Anki?
No, I just use Anki web on the iPad but I do most of the actual card studying on my android phone. It's free and killer. I like being able to them anywhere so I don't have a good excuse for not doing them.

So PCM is now only an hour long....

Yeah, I don't know what that means. If it's truly 1 hour then that limits them to 48 questions, correct?

We are supposed to be given 75 seconds/question from what I remember.

In less than 24 hours we will be done with our first semester of medical school.

I just paid ~23k to get my a** handed to me for 4.5 months.

Have a good break everybody! Just wondering, for future reference, do we need to score 70% on every PCM exam or just 70% total for the class? The syllabus doesn't make this clear at all.

I believe it's for every exam.

Oh man is this true? Lol doomed

I thought that requirement was for OS and other classes. Doesn't say it in the PCM syllabus.

It says a minimum of 70% must be obtained on exams to pass the class and then right below it says "remediation of PCM exams" .... And says "review kcumb remediation policy" ..... Since it says exam I took that to mean you have to get a 70 on each exam. I don't know, though, it is not 100% clear.

It is really ambiguous because it says under Evaluation: achieve a min of 70% points for the course

Under point allotment it says " after the point accumulation has occurred, scored will be weighted to reflect a 70% value a
Location to points derived from examinations...".

Then you have the sentence you quoted above!

Don't know what yo make of it but we will soon find out!

Crap, I went into the test thinking I wouldn't care if I failed it. I did pretty well but if I had known that I would have studied so much more.
