KCUMB Class of 2018

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not many people were prepared for that quiz. Everyone chilled this weekend.

Now to catch up on the lectures I neglected.

Well, evidently some people were prepared for it with that average. Good times.

I keep saying that no matter what we should always expect high averages with this class!

Anyone ever figure out the wonky repro percentage?

Eh, I counted 3 tags that were far from 'text book' and a few people I talked to that normally hit high 90s on these said there was one that wasn't on the list. I get that the bodies are pretty bad now, but there were a few tags that would have been clear as day if they used a different body. I'll be beyond shocked if the average is over 90 on this one. Almost everyone I talked to said they thought this was the hardest one yet.

All tags should be photographed and if a given tag is missed by x% or more of the class then it should be presented (the photograph and explanation) at the review session. Good riddance to the practicals (yes I know neuro.)

Harder than GI??

I though GI was worse.

In terms of the structures/list, I thought GI was probably a little tougher. In terms of the actual tags this was the worst. Partially because the bodies are now jerky, partially because they just picked some bad examples imo.

I don't know about that. Some of the GI tags looked like they tossed the intestines like spaghetti then just threw a pin in there

At the review they said they might allow a second answer to be considered correct for one question and may throw out one other because it had a spelling error. So no one should lose points, but you could end up with the same score while the class average goes up. I got both the questions being reviewed right, so getting points back will only hurt my grade.

I normally do very well on practicals and I found myself second guessing quite a bit due to the way some structures were tagged. Others I've talked to felt the same. Really frustrating to miss stuff for reasons other than lack of knowledge.

Agree with this completely. The bodies are just so far gone at this point, but there were definitely better tags to be had. While I have scored well in the past I'm honestly just hoping to pass this one. There were a couple tags I literally didn't know what I was looking at.

Weren't we supposed t
Yeah I seriously knew all of the structures pretty well but if they didn't tag them so ambiguously I wouldn't be worried. There was one where the pin was tagged like at the center of a transected penis and I couldn't tell if it was corpus cavernosum or deep a. of the knob. I chose the latter and am now regretting that.
Def wasn't cavernosum. I put deep a. as well but there is contention in that others put deep dorsal v. Again, a very ambiguous tag where related structures were not visualized. If they want to tag any of that vasculature then both deep aa. and the deep dorsal vein should be visible. Anatomy is so much about relating structure to structure.

What's the deep artery of the knob?

Oh wait I meant hemisected penis lol

I had corpus cavernosum for one tag on a hemisected penis.
I put Dorsal artery of the penis for one (others put deep dorsal vein of the penis) and deep fascia of the penis for another tag on the transected penis.

The deep dorsal vein vs dorsal artery of the penis tripped me up. I ended up choosing same as you did. I had my face like 2 inches from it trying to figure out if the pin was off center.

Deep artery would be in center of corpus cavernosum (transected) and I don't think its even possible to see it in the hemisected one since it would be deep to the plane. (unless it was tagged way more proximal)

Goddamn it why the hell did I write deep artery. I knew it was between those two and I still manage to trick myself and pick the wrong one. I'm a fooking idiot. If I fail this practical because of that question I'm gonna go nuts.

I made some idiotic mistakes too.

Don't let it get to you. Study for the final.

I was just as close if not closer.....

Another one I was like "wtf do they want?" Was the one where I'm pretty sure now they wanted frenulum .... But I put prepuce.

Does anyone know when practical grades are going to be posted? Usually they have it done the day after...

Since the practical was Friday and they didn't get them out same day we won't get grades til Monday sometime, I bet. It's annoying, but is what it is....I almost don't want to know now so I can just take the final and not be thinking "stupid practical grade" the whole time.

Sorry, meant to say dorsal artery of penis. I put dorsal artery of penis

Thing is they usually get the grades out that Saturday after if I remember correctly.

You may be right....and I just thought they came out same day. I don't keep that kind of info in my brain anymore....hah

Maybe this time it was a case of too many 50/50 answers?? Or they just didn't want to hang around to get it done this time.

I thought this was a little harder than endo, but a lot less tricky/confusing. I'm calling high B average before points are given back (if any). A 90% would mean the average was missing 6 questions or less, which would surprise me.

I got an entire letter grade higher than I did in endo. I didn't get that much smarter.

Everyone I've spoken to says they got an A.

I've spoken to quite a few people in the C range, though I don't think there's many. Also, remember that the average for endo was only 86 before we got all those points back...

That's very true. Those points back made a huge difference.

I doubt we will get any points back on this one because it was so straight forward.

Did they ever address the points/percentage issue?

Right now I'm waiting for that stupid practical grade. It could make or break me.

Im also wondering about the points/percentage issue. I remember someone mentioning it during cardiopulm too..do we know what happened with that? Hopefully grades aren't up yet because there debating on accepting more than one answer?

That might explain written test, but the pracrical? I wonder why it is taking this long. Don't think we've had this before

Don't quote me on this, but rumor has it that 80 people failed the practical and the profs are trying to figure out what to do. This is also supposedly the worst practical in school history.

Wow, I heard a similar rumor, but nothing that extreme. That legit scares me a little, especially since I know the fellows seemed like they wanted to rip someone's head off yesterday. I really don't know why they're so surprised though. I'm not going to pretend that I'm near as smart as the fellows, but I could have come up with better tags than what we had. I actually lol'd during the practical more than once because of how bad they were...

Also, when I talked to Andrea Hanson at the beginning of the year she said they calculate the curve based on points, not percentages. So even if the wrong percentage is up on BB, as long as the points are correct it shouldn't make a difference in the final curve.

They honestly can't be mad at us. Those tags were bad. It was not "what is it" but "what do they want it to be"

That sounds a bit extreme but if it is true than it will be interesting to see how it is handled. My hope is that they are debating which questions to throw out or accept more answers based on the statistics on how people answered.

Ouch! Now I am scared!
