This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congratulations everyone who found out they were accepted today! I was accepted too. 😀 I have to admit hearing those words was a little more overwhelming than I had expected. All those long nights of studying and stress flashed before my eyes. Haha. Can't wait to start!

4th - 6th, there guy. Com'on out and boo... it won't help ya too much at that point cause the Yanks will be pretty far out of the East. I love to watch Yankees fans squirm. I'm sure by then I'll have a full notebook on Hank Steinbrenner gaffs to go over with ya!

Yeah, I like Billy Butler. He is handling himself pretty well so far. Unfortunately with teams like this have become farm teams for other clubs. I keep hoping at some point the Nationals might become something... I mean you would hope that at some point they can shake off the Expos past. But I'm with you... while I'm a huge Sox fan, I'll watch baseball of any sort.

A friend just showed me this site today and I wasn't planning on posting but if there's any baseball going to be played next year let me know. I've got the catcher's gear if you need it. I probably won't check back here too often, but this should link to my e-mail.

Oh, and every year they have a KCUMB picnic type of thing to start the year off. Last I heard they were thinking about going to the Red Sox vs. Royals game for it this year. That's not official of course.

I agree that KCUMB's match list is fairly impressive, but I will note that I've seen much better, all things considered. I only had a problem with my colleague claiming it was better than most, MD or DO, which I don't think is true. However, I wouldn't judge a school based on a match list; it says more about a given class than anything else.

Also, FWIW, I do think KCUMB is at least on par with UMKC (which is a 6 year BS/MD medical school), SLU, and even KU Med (for which you didn't post the match list). I recall hearing that locally, RD's rather prefer our students because of their reputation for being outstanding and hardworking. However, I wouldn't go nuts with that... We are a good school and we produce good physicians. That's all that concerns me. 🙂

While I agree with your general statement, I dont think you are in ANY position to comment on how "impressive" KCUMB's match list is, considering you have not even completed your 1st year or experienced anything remotely related to clinical medicine that 3rd and 4th year students have. Additionally, how do you know what programs are impressive and which ones arent? I do agree with you generally, but it is important to know your limitations and clearly you weren't aware of yours.

i think you could have phrased your criticism quite a bit more nicely.

Thank you for the feedback. I acknowledge my limitations and where I sit with my current level of knowledge and experience. I am a medical student, nearing completion of my first year. There's no pretense about that and everyone here is well aware of it. I assure you that I strive to face myself humbly each day, but I am definitely no doormat.

However, with that said, I do not accept your projections about me or my experience, and I find your dismissive style unnecessary and abrasive. Judging from your prior posts, it would appear that it is a habit for you to dismiss the opinions of those who are a few steps behind you in the path. First and foremost we are human beings and deserve respect. Just because I have not yet ascended to your level, does not make my comments or opinions somehow less valuable or true. If you are intent on judging, I think it would be a better habit to judge a comment based on it's merits and not on the status of the individual who delivered the comment.

Anyway, I appreciate your feedback and advice, despite how it was delivered.

WHATS YOUR POINT? GEE WIZ CAPTAIN OBVIOUS, a near second year isnt as experienced or doest have the medical knowledge of a fellow----theres some front page news..? Spiced has contributed greatly and fairly on his opinion of KCUMB and Osteopathic Medicine on this forum. If your opinon differs, as natuarlly everyones does you should express it in a way that doesnt make you sound like an egotistical prick. Whatever you place on the heirarchy of medicine is, remember theres ALWAYS somone smarter and you were once a premed like most people on this forum.

Welcome. So your first action in this thread is to dress down Spice. Good job there, couyon. I hope you are impressed with yourself.

if only we could all be so eloquent in response to those who seek to disparage us.

well done, spiced. and thank you for all your advice and opinions on these threads. you're done a great job of providing helpful info, honest answers, and objective criticisms.

keep up the great work, and i look forward to meeting you in the fall.

p.s. is med school like highschool, with the 3rd and 4th year "seniors" bullying the 1st year "freshman"? geez i hope not.

but seriously, that would be pretty funny if 4th yrs tried that stuff in med school.. the size difference is erased by then. Id probably punch a 4th yr in the face if he tried to haze me lol

While individual experiences will vary, I think medical school can be like HS in some ways, but it is probably better described, now that I think of it, as a small town. It might have something to do with seeing the same people day in and day out, for many hours a day, in the same exact place, having very similar experiences as them. Even though KCUMB has a fairly large class size, it's still small enough that you sometimes feel like you are in a small town, where everybody knows your name, what you did yesterday, and some of the gossip about you.

Still, despite the sometimes cliquey feel at school, most everyone is very cordial, understanding, and helpful to one another. Part of it is because we are having similar experiences and medical school is pretty tough. Truly, your fellow classmates will know best about the medical school experience and can resonate with both the horrors and joys of being a medical student, since they are living it along with you. Most everyone else outside of school won't have a clue. It's hard for them to appreciate what you are going through, especially the rigors of it.

Last, to more directly answer your question, deadeyedk, no, most upperclassman (by that I mean the 2nd years, since we basically have no contact with the 3rd and 4th years) at KCUMB have been exceedingly helpful. It is they who provide all the tutoring, the occasional academic and personal advice, and kickass study guides. I don't think I would have made it this far without their help and guidance. Seriously. They carried me through from MSK on...

Anyway, good luck ladies and gentlemen. I am very proud to have you guys at my school. You all look like a great class and I know you will make KCUMB proud. I look forward to working with you all. Remember to enjoy your time off in the mean time. You earned it. 👍

I am, of course, available to answer any reasonable question you might have. I'll do my best to answer it, or point you to a better resource.

Hey everyone!

I am fairly new to this. I just recently found out that I was accepted as well!!! 🙂 I was just wondering if anyone has any list or database they know of that lists KCUMB's ranking in comparision to other medical schools. If anyone knows where I can find one for free that would be great. Thanks!! I cant wait to meet everyone in a few months!!

Hey, congratulations!

I am not aware of any universally accepted rankings for osteopathic medical schools that I would take seriously. Furthermore, KCUMB tends not to release their statistics for these kind of comparisons, so if you do see a list, it will generally say "no data" or something like that for KCUMB.

Anyway, all I can say is that we have a solid reputation among the schools and were one of the original osteopathic medical schools. I don't think you can go wrong attending here. We have a high first-choice match rate and if you look at our match lists, you will see that we consistantly send people off to good residencies.

rankings are garbage.. but if you are interested in the match list scroll up a bit, endocardium posted a link earlier. but just keep in mind its missing about 40 students still

Medical Students for Choice is listed as an official club at KCUMB.

Endocardium - I don't mean to be a pain in the ***, but I'm still not finding anything on MS4C at KCUMB. The list of clubs on the school's web site is here: http://www.kcumb.edu/students/clubs.asp. It's not listed and using the school's search engine and google hasn't turned up anything either. When I do the same searches for Medical Students for Life, their pages come up. Would you mind letting me know what you know of MS4C, how to contact someone about it, where you've seen it listed, etc? Thanks.

did anyone get sent a bunch of crap consisting of forms to fill out regarding immunizations etc. even if they already sent all this stuff in?

I havent gotten anything since January. I got those immunization forms your talking about. Since I hadnt heard from them in a long time I called them to make sure I was up to date on everything. They said to just get my immunization records in order and Im good to go.

So has anyone received their acceptance letter that interviewed last week? I called Monday and found out I was accepted, but I haven't received my official letter yet. Just curious if someone else has received a letter.

I interviewed last Thursday. I called today and found out I was accepted. She said that the letters were mailed earlier this week.

I got my letter in the mail today. But I live in Kansas City. Congrats everyone!

Hey, RingJ7303,

I know you weren't addressing me, but I definitely see MS4C listed in the list of official clubs in my student handbook. However, I have never gotten any email from them or heard them make an announcement that I remember. Perhaps they were a club here at KCUMB but then disbanded for some reason? I don't know. I'll ask around and see what I can find out.

Well, it looks like I'm going to pass Biochem II. Yea! The instructor e-mailed me today and told me I did better than most of the class on the ACS exam. Why am I barely passing then? Oh well, I am going to pass! Just thought I'd share since I was worried this was going to keep me from attending next year!:clap:

So PokerDoc, do you know if you are going to KCUMB next year? 🙂

I got 'high priority waitlist' at jefferson which is the only school i liked more then KCUMB. so that means its still 50-50 right now with a bigger 50 probably leaning towards KCUMB. I think ill have a clearer picture after the may 15th deadline passes for the MD schools. I'm not worrying about it TOO much though because i was really content with both schools. The only bad thing about KCUMB is that its really far away from home (22hr drive vs 3hr drive to jeff), although thats only for the first 2 yrs cuz i can guarantee you I wont be doing my rotations in KC.

Well, good luck! I hope you go to KCUMB but it would be nice to be closer to home. It sucks that you still have to be up in the air this late in the year though. :luck::luck:

would not passsing biochem II keep you from matriculating? i thought we only needed 3 semester hours of biochem.... so all i'll have taken as of may is intro to biochem.

am i missing something crucial here? i haven't heard differently from the school.

No, I think you have to pass every class that you take regardless of whether or not it is a pre-req. I could be wrong though.

thanks very much. Id love to go to KCUMB too, I met a few people on my interview day who were really cool and are also matriculating, plus u guys here all seem like awesome people. Sometimes its not where you go but who you are with that makes it feel like home. And it definitely sucks being up in the air still, I was hoping this would be settled a while ago too but it doesnt always work out that way. but this is a lot better than last year when i didnt get in anywhere. being a year wiser and scoring 3 points higher on the mcat sure helps lol

Congrats, I'm looking forward to seeing you this Fall. Poker, on your question about the vaccination stuff. Yeah, I had already sent in my vaccination forms to the school before they sent me their official form. So I had to get them to send everything back to me, so I could submit it "properly". Oh, well. I'm gonna echo t-funk here and say we'd love to have you around in the Fall.
