does anyone know if we can just call them with our credit card number for the payment, or fax it?

I bet the fax would be okay, but doubt you could just call it in. I think they want your signature. I'm not completely sure though, just give them a call tomorrow and I'm sure they will give you the rundown of your options.

is there any Canadian or international student applying to KCUMB?

I was about to submit my secondary for KCUMB and I came across the following:

"As part of the secondary application, applicants who are not U.S. citizens or do not have permanent U.S. resident status are required to provide the Admissions Office with a copy of their INS documentation and VISA."

well how serious is this? I thought that we should worry about that after we get accepted?

Have you guys come across such a thing? what did you do?

Is anyone that interviewed on Nov 18th going to call admissions today to see if they got in?

I interviewed nov 18 as well I called and was told they no longer provide status over the phone, I was told this before I provided any identifying information, letters should come soon.

Anyone interviewing Dec. 3? I'm so nervous its stupid haha.

Don't be, this interview was cake despite their good cop/bad cop game they tried to play during the interview at the end of the day. Keep your cool, answer honestly and intelligently and you should be fine.

You're golden as long as you don't come off as cocky, crazy or someone without a personality. you'll comeback after your interview and post something in the lines of "Oh man, you guys were right, there was no need to be nervous!"

Did you actually get to talk to admissions or did you just talk to the first person that answered? If it wasn't admissions, it is possible you can still find out over the phone if you ask to speak to them directly. If they still won't give it out, the letter comes about a week after the adcom meets which isn't too bad.

Good Luck.

I didn't get that. Both of my interviewers were awesome. It was very laid back and conversational.

Mine didn't either. Well, maybe they did but then we started joking around with the "bad cop" about being a snowboarder, then formalities went out the window and we just had a good time. By far the most laid back interview to date. It is a good feeling wanting to high five the interviewers rather than shake hands after an interview.

You know, it was actually another poster who put it that way (good cop/bad cop) and I just ran with it because frankly, I thought it was a fitting description. One of my guys was asking all the hard stuff and the expression on his face was just complete... I don't know, disinterest in everything I was saying. But it felt like an act to me, you know? Like that was just the role he had to play. Because I'd respond and he seemed to approve of my answers. It's hard to describe, he didn't explicity SAY he approved of my answers but his facial expression made it seem so. The OTHER guy was all smiles the entire time, and would actively listen to what I was saying. By actively listen, I mean, nodding while I'm talking, smiling, wide-eyed, interested in me. I was like, this guy is awesome! But then the other guy would ask a question, then proceed to give me that same 'I hate your guts' look and I'm thinking to myself, 'what IS it with this dude?!'

Oh well, still got in 🙂

Feel very lucky.

I hear you. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, I'm just saying it didn't happen when I was there. Usually your interviewers are the luck of the draw, but at least at KCUMB they try to match you with interviewers with similar interests/experiences. It helps, but I'm sure it's not perfect.

I feel that my interview started the same way with one not really giving me any feedback as the other was super friendly, but halfway in the interview the other interviewer definately opened up as well and we had a great conversation for the remaining 30 minutes or so.

if you are in the United States on a Visa then just mail that documentation (I-20 forms, passport copy ,etc). if you are still in Canada, just mail them a copy of your passport. i asked if they accept emails or fax, but they said to mail everything.

Yeah I get what you guys are saying. I talked to a couple second years at KCUMB and they keep telling me the same thing you guys are. One of the student's interview lasted 10 minutes and she got in. I hope thats the case with me haha.

Interviewed Nov. 18, just found out I was accepted.

I interviewed the 18th too, did your letter come in the mail or did you call?

Admissions said letters were mailed out today! Still waiting here..

I called the director of admissions (Patricia Harper) and left her a voicemail. She called me back (Yesterday) and told me I had been accepted and that offer letters had been placed in the mail. She was very kind and helpful! Best of luck

So I really liked KCUMB when I interviewed there, but then I came across these...

If anyone can invalidate them, that would be great...

You hear the same stuff from every single med school in america. I'm willing to bet you can find a post like that for every school right here on SDN! One complaint after hundreds of positive reviews isn't going to stop me from considering it.

I think it may be my top choice now.

Don't fall for this crap. Both of those came from the same angry poster. Plus, they invalidate themselves. After they said: I have never skipped one day of class since orientation and I l have earned absolutely nothing of value. They lost all credibility. Most people who post things like this have an isolated and personal issue they need to get worked out. Don't be suckered by raging outliers, such as this person.

Ug - the suspense of waiting for an adcom decision post-interview is awful!!!

I left my interview feeling fairly positive, like it went well, but waiting is making the pessimist in me come out and I am second guessing my responses and overall performance now. . .Did y'all who interviewed and got accepted have this feeling too? I'm hoping its just nerves :scared:

Accepted!!! Emailed Mrs. Harper today and she wrote back with the good news 🙂

It's just nerves! I walked out feeling pretty good too, it's only natural that as time goes by you start to second guess your responses. I think we've all gone through that. The good thing is it is not that long of a wait before you find out! They are pretty fast.

Thanks for the reinforcement 🙂

I agree with the other posters. You have people who like/dislike their school wherever they end up. I would say the people who typically dislike their school most likely band together and make it the common enemy as a defense mechanism against the workload or some incident that occurred that has put them off. This is an opinion that I think will probably shift as they hit clinical years/residency. It's easier to get mad at your school for doing X, Y, or Z, than it is to take personal responsibility for your learning. Also, that student was at KCUMB during a transition period for both higher administration and curriculum shifts. Those can all be difficult to take, which is one reason I am very happy with KCUMB. They have finally ironed out their curriculum and the students seemed very happy as a result.

Either way, I always find it humorous when people cite a handful of posters as haters of a program to deem that program as bad. KCUMB has ~240 students in each class and to only see a handful of negative reviews is pretty impressive. I mean, who do you think writes reviews? Those that thought something was terrible or bad and those that thought it was so amazing it had to be talked about (which I hate to say it, isn't medical school). Everyone in between doesn't care enough to post. I would even be willing to bet that most positive posts or reviews are a fluke just due to the nature of the person that wrote the review, they are just people who like to review things. Check any apartment review website if you want to see what I'm talking about. It is so obvious that there is some serious review bias/error, that it's almost not even worth checking them out. The one thing I will say about negative reviews, is they give you data about things to investigate or questions that might be worth asking about (this is your time to put in the work), so go do some research and see if you agree.

I'm of the opinion that medical schools tend to get better, not worse. I know docs that graduated from here and they went on to complete some amazing residencies (all of the individuals went the allopathic route) and have nothing but good things to say about KCUMB (formerly known as UHS). They've been out for years, so honestly, I think things could only have gotten better since then.

Plus, I tend to tune out anyone who starts blaming teachers and admin people. What do the admin people have to do with anything? And we can blame teachers all day until we're blue in the face but that will never explain our inadequacies. Math isn't my strong suit. I understand there could be a gap in my learning years and years back. Shall I start blaming my 2nd grade teacher because I didn't land some high paying actuary job for the government? And there's one thing that unifies all medical schools, DO, MD or Carib, Top 10, Top 25 or brand new school that hasn't even graduated a class - it's all about what YOU put into it. No one school out there will be the gateway to success if you don't put in the work. Expect to fail if you expect any hand-holding in a medical school in this day and age. They admit smart people for a reason. You need to be smart to make it.

Definitely don't worry about it. Right after my interview I felt like I aced it, but as the day went on I started wondering "Did I ramble too much on this question?" "Did I sound insincere when I answered this way?"

Just relax, focus on the positives, grab a beer and wait it out 🙂 They wouldn't give you an interview unless they were already really interested in you.

My return flight from Kansas City is leaving at 5:30 pm the day of the interview. Do you guys think this will be a problem? I've tried emailing and calling admissions, but they haven't responded to that question.

Thanks!

I don't think so. Plus, KC's airport is so small that you can waltz right into your terminal from the curbside. So, I don't think it will be an issue. I think most of the people were out of their interviews by around 2.

Fox89, my flight departed KC at 5PM on the interview day and it was not a problem for me. Usually they schedule people with early flight time to interview first. For some reasons, mine was the last one and I was done before 2:30PM. So there will be plenty of time for you to go to the airport and check in. Hope this helps 😀

Thanks a lot guys for answering my question!

Dr. Segars is impossible to read! He's quite the intimidating fella.

To the above poster, when I came out of my interview, only about 4 people were still waiting out of 25 to interview. This was around 230 so I will echo what everyone else said and say that 530 is no problem. I wish my flight was earlier! I've been waiting in this damn airport for 2 hours haha.

I've been accepted to KCUMB and TOURO-NV...I've been heavily leaning towards KCUMB...but there are pros and cons for both...TOURO-NV is closer to home (a big one)...and Kansas City apparently has a pretty high crime rate....I don't know!

So KCUMB vs TOURO-NV...what do you all think?

KCUMB by a mile. I know one chick at Touro. She's got nothing but great things to say about it. However, I know a few physicians from KCUMB in many different fields and they are all brilliant people. My friend who's at Touro is very bright, too, but where she ends up is still up in the air. On the other hand, like I said, I know a few individuals from KCUMB who already made it, so it seems like more of a "sure thing" if such a thing existed. Med school is what you make it but KCUMB seems to produce good docs, judging from my experience.

This is not even a comparison honestly! KCUMB unless Touro is giving you a full ride scholarship (Maybe then acutally).

Thanks TheAlphaPaul -- good advice, and yes, I will most definitely be having more than just A beer this week whilst I wait to hear back 🙂

Interviewing on 1/6 🙂! So from what I have read it sounds like KCUMB gives a pretty quick response after interviewing, do they just accept or reject...no holds?? I am nervous already....I was also wondering, do they accept a lot of the applicants that they select for interviews?? I saw a lot of people updating with good news, but not many with bad...? Thanks for any insight!

Hey everyone, so I am interviewing on Dec. 10th at KCUMB, but I am also interviewing at KCOM on Dec 6th...and it seemed dumb to fly out to MO twice in one week, so I will be staying in Kansas City for a few days before the interview. Can any current students or people that know the area recommend some fun stuff to do in the area? I am coming by myself, so I feel like I will be pretty lonely and bored if all I do is hang around the hotel...Any ideas/suggestions?

I have just withdrawn my acceptance to KCUMB. Best of luck everyone!!!
