Ignore if you don't want to hear a lot of pointless complaining on my part but I am so mad right now I could spit...

I just lost one of my interviews because one of my schools emailed 2 days ago to ask where my Physics II course was. I had taken Physics I at a CC and then, because I had to go back to work teaching, I took a graduate level physics course at a well known university online to get the rest of my 8 hours. I also had a Biophysics course from my undergraduate caseload for good measure.

Anyway, my other schools emailed me about the issue BEFORE the start of spring semester because it wasn't the normal PHY I/PHY II series, and all of them accepted the grad level course + biophysics combination for my second semester of Physics II. Since I had not heard from this school, and I had sent them a copy of what courses I was taking for the Spring semester, I assumed that I was fine.

According to this school, I'll go ahead and call them IL because I am not feeling tactful, I was supposed to have discerned that I needed another Physics course because they had not counted it in my science GPA. There were no emails, no flags on my status page etc. They also insinuated that the grad level physics course was an education course (because the majority of the students were in a master's in physics education program) which in terms of difficulty is like saying your Calculus class was the equivalent to elementary school math, and I was justifiably insulted. I even sent links to assignments so they could see it was physics, but I was told by the counselor that she didn't even bother checking those because she already knew it was an education class, even though I took it, not her.

I am most upset because if they had just said something 2 weeks ago, I could have signed up for the course for this semester, or at least not bought the plane ticket! Sorry for all the vitriol but it seems a cruel trick to play on me at this point in the game.

I did get to tell the woman though that their petty insistence on a very narrow interpretation of a physics course load was going to be to their detriment, not mine. Hmph!

And if any adcoms are reading this, I would like to state for the record that my dealings with MN, Wis and VA-MD have been nothing but professional and courteous, and for this I thank you. 🙂

Aw, that sucks! I'm sorry that happened to you, but look at it this way: the school you get into/end up going to will be ridiculously better than them, so 😛 to them! Yeah, I know, I get pretty immature and indignant when it comes to this stuff. Something kind of similar happened to me earlier in the game- I was missing a silly oral communication class; my spring schedule was too full and they wouldn't let me take it over the summer, so they basically threw my app out. I believe the phrases "poopyhead" and "buttface" left my mouth, but to my credit, I was tactful enough not to say it to the admissions people, only to those I was venting to. 😉 I'm so jealous of what you said to them, though- I never would have had the guts to do that! 👍

see, i would have been much more profane in my fit of anger 😉

Sadly, I worked with children for a summer and was forced to give up my potty mouth, and haven't quite picked it back up yet. 🙄 Luckily, I chose to work with animals, so as long as I keep it in check around the clients, it's not so bad!

I'm sorry Fargeese, that sucks. Keep your head up, and concentrate on your other interviews. I'm sure you'll do great. Good luck!

I never used to be able to say things like that to authority figures until I got older, the talent will come young Jedis!

Fargeese, that sucks. Do you want me to break their kneecaps for you? I would. and shout dirty things and pull their hair! those pooheads. That's totally uncalled for.

I think you need a good:boom:right about now, Fargeese. That blows. Schools have had plenty of time to figure out if we're deficient (or perceived to be deficient) in requirements and to contact us about it. To do so at this point (after offering you an interview?!?!) obviously demonstrates a HUGE error on their part. To not admit that is mind boggling. But everyone's right. You don't want to be at a school like that. And you'll be able to see that clearly in a few months when you're surveying all of your other offers!

It's funny how expectation plays a huge role in how you feel about things (at least, it does for me). I figured I wouldn't get in, I didn't, and I'm not phased. Congrats to all who got in!

I know exactly what you mean. I didn't expect to get into Cornell and when the letter came, I held my breath, clicked the link, and was like "oh well" and actually laughed about it.

Thanks everyone for your comments, I really am ok, I'm just really mad at their timing, and their attitude. All the other offices have been really nice, and timely, ahem, with their email/questions etc. so I am perfectly willing to accept any of their offers of admission.

You guys rock 😍

I would DEFINITELY have applied to some schools and NOT others. For example, ad I known that Kansas only looks at the required science GPA and the GRE I would have skipped that one (my GRE was great but science GPA up and down depending on the year). I truly hope I don't have to do this whole process again next year but if I do, I'll be MUCH WISER!😳

Sorry Fargeese - it is REALLY late in the game to let you know that 😡

Sorry about Tufts, Rexo, and sorry to all those who got double-whammied by Tufts and CSU. I'm fairly sure my CSU rejection is waiting in the mail at home (I'm on vacation right now).

That really sucks Fargeese, what a lame school!! After almost 4 months of having your app, you'd think they could at least have enough brain power to look at your pre-reqs and figure them out.

I too am expecting my CSU rejection to be waiting for me (my mom's mailbox). Wheeeee! Well, at least I dodged $40,000+ OOS tuition.

Is this really the case for kansas? Makes them a whole lot more appealing in my book for when I apply...

Actually, that will be the same reason I don't apply to Minn next year. If you don't meet their GPA and GRE standards, your app doesn't even get a second look. My grades may not be fantastic (and they are not awful either) but I think I have a lot of other qualities that are more important and should be considered along with grades in at least the first run-through.

If anything, I wouldn't re-apply to Minn for the opposite reason. Once they look at GPA/GRE and make their cutoff, they completely disregard it, which kind of sucks for people who DID do really well in that area but aren't so strong otherwise. Their process really looks at everything, and doesn't allow you to be really great in one area and then ok/mediocre in another.

got a nice rejection letter from tufts yesterday. i keep telling myself that it is better than having to spend the money for an interview and then getting rejected.....but it sucks. 😎

That is a really good point. Keep your head up!

Rejected from KSU today via email, OOS, no interview. Not really surprised, since I hadn't gotten an interview. Good luck to everyone else who applied there.

Got the official rejection letter from VA-MD today. Disappointing as VA-MD is my IS school. Oh well. There is always next year! I'm down but not out!!

Hang in there, VeganChick. Your day will come!

where else did you apply?

Well as expected, my big fat CSU rejection mail was waiting for me at home. Phooey.

I applied to VA-MD (IS), Cornell, Penn, CSU, MSU, NCSU, and UMinn. The only one I have not heard a definitive no from is Penn.

We'll Penn would be great; definately a good option. Im kinda new to the forum, so I dont have the skinny, Is this your 1st appl year? Do you plan on applying again or do you have a backup plan.

I currently live in DE but Im a native Virginian (Hampton Roads area and Sterling for 2 yrs while I went to NOVA for tech school) at heart.

Off Topic- ButI was just curious how many times most people have applied. The average use to be 2 times, but I have a feeling its more than that now. This is my 6th cycle! Anyone read any stats anywhere on that lately? Would be an interesting poll but I dont know how to set those up here😕

SO honestly I am freaking out a little because apparently Iowa notified by email last year on 2/14!!!!!! Since being there, it has moved into my #1 choice (over WSU-IS).....and I am dying to know!!!!! I thought I was going to have to wait until they sent notification by snail mail!!!!!!! I hate to get my hopes up, since that definitely didn't work for OSU, but I would love to be at ISU!!!!!!! Just thought I would share my stress.....

They did say when we were at the interviews this year that it would be USPS. Personally, I'd focus on that over info from last year. Since they didn't even interview last year, I'd say it's safe think other things could have changed, too.

As for MSU, I'm counting them out. My status on the web NEVER even chaged to 'File Review'. So my file was never even looked at?

Last year I heard nothing from Kansas until May until the rejection letter showed up

Did you contact them about this? It seems very odd that your status did not change to file review at all. It's my understanding that everyone is supposed to go to file review once all of the necessary items are received by MSU. My status did change to file review on 10/22 and I haven't heard anything from them🙁 So, I finally emailed them asking if I was still being considered and if they were still interviewing. I was told that my application is still active and that they will be sending out notifications until the end of the month. I don't think it looks to good for me...I'm obviously not a top contender for them🙁

Best of Luck to All :luck:

ISU is meeting starting around 2/12 to finalize decisions then e-mailing and USPS starting 2/15.

Do we know which types of notifications they'll be emailing versus which types they'll be snail mailing?

My assumption is they are e-mailing and snail-mailing everything but sometimes when you assume you make an *** of yourself. I'm just guessing that because that's how they offered interviews (interview and USPS) but I don't know about rejections. That would suck but I'd rather know via e-mail right away then wait to try and attack the mailman!

I believe there are others still waiting to hear from Auburn too. I was wondering if anyone knew what was going on if you hadn't heard a peep out of them! I am OOS and I believe they are doing OOS interviews this week (Good Luck to those of you). I realize this isn't promising, but I was curious to see if anyone had any news before I called to check in!

Re: Auburn, I don't have any current news, but I can tell you that last year they waited quite a while to reject me (without interview)..so you may not hear for a while yet. I would look up the postmark date, but you're probably much better off just calling to check in! I'll let you know if I hear anything while I'm there on Thursday!

Good to know! I'm planning on calling tomorrow but having some sort of idea makes me slightly less nuts (if thats possible).

Thanks for the interview and break a leg on thursday MickeyBlueEyes!

Auburn Interviews are this week. We were told they'll be sending out acceptances to OOS-ers by the end of this week. I am sorry, I don't think there are any more interviews. They are interviewing 75 OOS this year and offering admission to about 30 (for final 10 spots). That's all I know so far.

I haven't heard anything from Auburn yet either. If you get good info tomorrow, please update, Calpard. Thanks!!

I too am out-of-state and have yet to hear anything from Auburn. I called today to see if they were doing any more interviews and the lady I spoke to said that they were not. 🙁 She also said that all correspondence will be through snail mail and it should be within the next few weeks.

I just called Auburn and though I am not sure who i spoke to I think it was someone with knowledge of the process from their office (i.e. there was a student on the phone first who explained they were short staffed due to the flu and when she went to go ask another woman came on the line).

Basically she said that at the beginning of this week they sent out a batch of about 300 letters to students who were not granted interviews. She explained, however, that they were holding on to a bunch (i forgot the number) of other applicants. She explained that since they were doing interviews now, they may go back and pull some of those applicants should they choose to. However, everyone should know by the end of February.

They were really nice about it which always makes me feel less like an idiot when i call! The student goes - its so frustrating sitting there on pins and needles! While that all isn't really different from the info in above posts, and isn't really promising, its just nice to know about a time frame!

I dont know about stats on the forum, but individual schools definately have stats from previous years. Here's the link to CSU: http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/cvmbs/profile.htm

Hope it helps!

P.s....this is my first time 'round!

today i was rejected from the vmd/phd program at penn, but it was a long shot anyway... and i had already talked myself out of the programs. i should hear from cornell soon - and i'm not too optimistic about that either, but, strangely, i'm not really upset. now i get to call up schools and beg for money. woohoo!

Banditalfi -I'm sorry to hear that! Their loss. stoopidheads.

Auburn rejection came today, snail mail, OOS.

Sorry to hear that, projekt. Do you have any more outstanding apps?🙁

waitlisted at oregon state. I'm having an awesome day!

Also waitlisted at Oregon State! 😀

Woohooo!! I thought I was a reject!

There was a lot of screaming and jumping around for my WSU interview notice, and plenty more hooplah for the waitlist notice. Any acceptence letters will probably make me pass out!!
