Keeping each other updated

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I posted this in the Waitlist thread, but I though I'd put it here too, since this thread seems to get a lot of views.

I called to confirm that I do want to be kept in Oregon's alternate pool.

They told me that they don't have a numbered list of alternates, so anyone from the pool can be accepted next! They have some kind of system, but the nice guy I was talking to said he didn't know details. But there isn't a ranked list of runners up.

He said to hang on, because they've offered spots to people as late as September/October!

So there's hope for us yet 🙂

Public Health types:

There is an interesting conference (in my opinion of course) on emerging infectious diseases in March for those who are going through the next app. cycle or are just interested (I am, but have no $$)

http://www.iceid.org/

I don't know if going to the AABP (american assoc. of bovine practitioners) conference this year helped my app or not, but I really enjoyed it, and it was not over my head as I expected, and I was able to quote one of the topics (a seminar about FMD about when, not if, it comes) in my interview, which was cool. If your interest is public health it might be a nice addition to the resume.

I still have heard nothing form MSU. Someone asked me earlier....can't remember where. And I'm bored.... so I thought I'd share that I NEVER went to file review on thier 'check status page'. I emailed them about it 3 weeks ago and they said I was still in the "pool". So there's a secret pool of people who's still in the pool without their files ever being reviewed??? Hmmmm. I took that as you're going to get rejected, but we just haven't sent those out yet. I don't understand how everyone has gone to file review (on th SDN) but me. I'm assuming all of their applicants have gone to file review. I asked them that and they had no comment.

They have no answer about my particular situation. Such as "there's still a group that haven't been updated, looked at, etc. yet". It's frustrating.

Poopie-heads. 😛

:laugh:I have to agree re: Poopie-heads😛 The rolling admissions is just a gimmick to make us suffer more. I was in one of the first groups to go to file review (not that MSU will apparently tell us what that means) and still haven't heard anything - Give me my rejection already if thats the case😡

don't worry philomycus, you're not the only one...i never went to file review this year or last year! 😡
i emailed MSU a few weeks ago and they said my file was still "active" but that's all they said. what does "active" mean anyway? does it mean that they just haven't gotten to it yet because it definitely doesn't mean i'm in the file review stage?!?!? or does it mean i don't meet the criteria for file review, yet i'm only considered "active" because they haven't had a chance to print out my rejection letter yet?

wow, i really am being negative tonight, i'm just so frustrated with this whole process!!!!!!!!!!

i promise i won't write anymore unless i have something nice to say😳

MSU never moved me into file review at all: they discarded my file way before that because one of the vets I work for would not file electronically-he sent a paper rec. at the last minute & MSU would not budge.

Thx RubyJoe for the info. At least I'm not all alone in this situation. The thing is, I have course work over 8 years old, applied for a waiver and got it. They should've just tossed me right then.

Oh well, much too cold anyway!! I'm definitely not crying my eyes out, but I wish they'd just reject me quickly and painlessly.

TOh well, much too cold anyway!!

It's 20 degrees and sunny with a foot of snow on the ground today.... considering it was 0 degrees with -30 wind chill on Sunday... 20 degrees is quite toasty! 😀

it's supposed to get up to 30 degrees by the weekend which is a heat wave for us lately! 😉

for those who are coming to Michigan next week for interviews, dress warm - we are expecting upper 20s with snow showers next monday/tuesday.

you are definitely not alone philomycus! I, too, have coursework over 8 years old which they approved. you would think in order to approve those classes they would have had to review my file. but i guess things don't always work like they should.

is this your first time applying to msu? if you happen to get a rejection you should definitely schedule an appointment to review your file with them. the appt can be on the phone or in person. they were really helpful last year and spent at least 30 minutes discussing my application with me. they had very detailed advice for improving my odds for the next year. though it doesn't seem to have worked (i wasn't able to do everything they suggested -time restraints are what got me!) it showed me how dedicated they are to education and helping others achieve their goals. even though i probably won't get an acceptance there this year (and if i don't receive any acceptances elsewhere) i will be applying there again next year. the game is not over yet! and i've got my fingers crossed for you and me 🙂

I spoke with someone at the office today as well, but I did get the impression that they do have some kind of ranking system, but they do not release it. I asked him if the committee sits down again to decide which alternate gets the bid, and he said they do not have another meeting, and it seemed from that they do have some kind of ranking order. He also said that there is no IS/OOS list, so we are all in it together. Should be about 20-30 alternates.

Aargh!! So I just got a voicemail from someone on the adcom at Wisconsin asking me to call them back. So I tried and he was out of the office, and I was going to leave the better daytime number for him to call me back at (because I can't have my cell phone in the office with me, which is the number he had) but his machine cut me off...twice. 🙁

Ok, now I'm a ball of nerves!:scared: (Why is it that whenever I know someone in authority wants to talk to me, but I don't know what it's about, I always assume I'm in trouble? I'm imagining him saying things like "Well, Ms. VAgirl, there seems to be a terrible problem with your application..." I'm such a worrier!)

VA girl think positive...I could be wrong but officials dont usually call to give BAD news! See if you can find a main office number and tell a receptionist or someone else to leave him a written message about the inablility to leave a voice mail. Will show your ability to see around and solve a problem. Can only be good. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the correction 🙂 The guy I was talking to did say he wasn't quite sure about it, and wasn't allowed to say much about ranking, though he thought there was just a pool and if a spot opened up, they'd assess the applicant pool.

The ranking order makes much more sense, and I do think that's what they do. I wish they could give us a better idea of where we stand. Thanks for the info!

It's going to be good things! I know it!!! Bad things come in snail mail. Calls are a good sign!! 😀

Thanks! It turns out it was good news. Yay! 🙂

(It's hard not to think like who ever it was a few months ago who got an interview invite and wasn't sure why and worried that the committee invited her there to throw things at her. Heh. My mind works that way, too!)

Finally! I knew I was out of it, but at least that 1% of hope is gone and I can quit thinking about it.

Philo, I'm so sorry! Did they finally decide to send you an email?🙁

Mine too! I know it isn't rational but I'm like "Man they just want me to come in to ask me why the heck I even thought I should apply and laugh at me or something!"

Sorry Philo🙁

Here's rooting for OK and UF!

I'm so sorry philo! I'm still rooting for you, though-if at least one school can't see what an asset you'll be, then they're poopy heads.

On to Florida and OK State, Philo - sorry about those darned Spartans.

has anyone who applied to Iowa.. not interviewed and not heard a word from them?

and I still have yet to hear anything from Michigan... my file went into review 11/19... and nothing!

I'm expecting rejection letters... 🙁

I'm in the same boat on Iowa. I figure it's a no go but alteast they could send something. A tiny percent of me wonders if I could have missed an email or something important!

MSU sent me a snail mail saying I didn't even accumulate enough points to enter file review. And last year for Iowa, I was in the same boat you are now and it ended up as a rejection. Not being harsh, but probably realistic. When everyone is hearing things and you don't, my experience has been no new is bad news.

I'm seriously not upset about MSU, but rejections still do suck. One down, 2 to go!!! My chances are better from UF and OK tho.....so here's still hoping!

All correspondence to applicants who were denied interviews were sent in early January by U.S. mail to the address that the applicant listed as their current address. The Admissions office has not had any letters returned.

This would be an applicant's notification that they have been denied admission for this cycle.

Hope that this helps.

Philo, I'm sending out lucky squirrel vibe to you!!!!:luck::luck::luck:

bummer about Mich. State, philo....🙁

here's hoping for good news from OK and FL.... :luck::luck:

i e-mailed missouri today after findingout i was rejected from iowa today and they said that letters were sent out wednesday of this week... so any day now... ahhhhh its my last hope!!!!

well still waiting on UF also

No interview for me this year for UF 🙁 I interviewed last year.

Aww, Philo, I'm sorry! --I was rootin' for you and your squirrel avatar! 🙁

I'm so sorry, Philo. Here's to hoping OK will hear all of us on SDN rooting for you!

Has anyone heard from Glasgow yet? In my obsessive stalking, I noted that people who interviewed last year heard about final decisions right about now.

I'm sorry to hear that Philo.... 🙁 hoping that OK works out for you

Sorry, Philo 🙁 Keeping my fingers crossed for OK!

I'm sorry too! Let's go OK!🙂

OK will have to take you, after I crop circle it in their wheat/corn fields 😉

"Wow! Space aliens want Philo to get in OkVetMed -- get the national enquirer on the phone!"

Sorry about UF! 🙁 Doody-heads!

thx guys/gals. I'm so dissappointed....it was my state school. how do you interview one year and reject the next. I know there's no guranette..... but i'm not a spring chicken or anything

ps I'm taaping into adult beverages, so my grammar aint so good....

note my new avatar and feelings on the situation

I'm so sorry Philomycus.🙁 Hit those adult beverages and hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

I liked the other squirrel better though.

I'm sorry Philo...here's hoping OK sees your greatness. Don't lose hope!!

Hey Philo-I'm dedicating my next adult beverage to you! Anyone else need a long-distance 'dedication'?:luck:

I'm really sorry about UF, Philo. It doesn't make any sense.

Does anyone know when UTK sends out interview notifications?? I read on their website that the first day of interviews is March 14th. Hopefully we hear soon!

Has anyone heard from JerseyIsCutest lately? I feel like I haven't seen her around these parts in for ever.

I haven't seen a post from her lately. It's weird when posters just disappear like that. When I first joined a while back there was this one poster (Horseyvet or something of that nature) that posted frequently and then disappeared when someone asked her what vet school she actually went to. I always thought that one was weird.

Why donchya add me to that list? I really want Western, & I have the sinking feeling that my interview wasn't that impressive. *sigh*
