Keeping EMT current while in Med School

Is it important or not?? Have you ever used it while in med school or is it insignificant and not worth much??

Not sure why you would need to. You probably wouldn't have time to work or volunteer as an EMT in med school. Although, in some states you can challenge the EMT-P exam after two years of med school and a refresher course.

unless you're trying to moonlight, in which case, you should read the schools student manual to ensure you are not allowed to use your past licenses for employment while in medical school. Seriously, I've seen it in them before.. i.e. pharmacists and RN's

I took an EMT-B refresher at the end of M1, and I worked a bunch during the summer between M1-M2. 'twas fun.

Mine expires in March, and I'm going through the same thing. I made sure to get my refresher and con ed done before I started med school, now I'm just debating whether or not it is worth the $150 dollars. I know I may never use it again, but the hassle involved in getting it reinstated should I need it after it lapses is fairly significant...

I'd say complete the requirements for renewal before you start med school, and then it will be fairly painless to make the decision either way once it comes time to submit the paperwork.

I've been a paramedic since 2004 and recert in March 2010. I also am an M1. When I was going into this year I fully intended to use my certification and work part time or per diem while in school. However, once I got going with school I realized for me this was a bad idea. I work hard enough with school why would I want to spend my free time "working"?

I am fairly certain I am just going to let it lapse in March-though it will be odd to not be able to say I am a paramedic anymore....

I would like to keep it current just to say I have it. I'll see how much time/effort/money it takes when it comes time to recert next year.
