I'm a first year at Kent. For whatever reason, Kent's reputation on here (and Barry's for that matter) is not the best. I went in to my interview with an open mind because I know that SDN users are just a portion of applicants and students, so I took things said in here with a grain of salt. I left my interview knowing that Kent was my top choice.
Now that I'm here, I'm very happy with my decision. It's a great school. The campus and building are beautiful and the facilities are top notch. The faculty have all been great so far, and though the schedule is a bit odd, it works well. Everyone is there to help and support you, from fellow students to faculty to administrators. The faculty have open door policies and will help you anytime you need it and they respond quickly to emails if you have questions. The upperclassmen give you various notes and practice tests, and there are tons of tutoring sessions (for example, there is anatomy tutoring for 2 hours every weeknight). It's a very friendly atmosphere and there are so many resources available to help you. The school definitely cares about you and wants you to succeed, and that's a vibe I didn't get at some schools.
The board pass rate was 92% this year, the third year Kent has been above the national average. Since Kent and Dr. Boike took over, there have been a lot changes to the curriculum (integration of PBL for example), and I think the board pass rates are positively reflecting that. The attrition rate is higher than other schools, yes, but in my experience, that has nothing to do with the school. The students that are not doing well are doing it to themselves with poor attendance and poor study habits, among other things. At the end of the day, it's on you to put the time in and study. Go to class. Rewatch lectures. Attend the tutor sessions. Take good notes, and use them in conjunction with the notes you get from upperclassmen. Study daily. Take some time to yourself so you don't go crazy and burnout. Basically, don't let the attrition rate scare you. If you're motivated and know you can be disciplined, you'll do just fine. Like I said, the school is great and does everything it can to help you out.
