Kratom and Naltrexone: precipitated withdrawal

Just took a call from local NP. Has 35 y/o former meth addict now doing ETOH and Kratom to stay off meth.
She is trying to help and put him on naltrexone to stay off ETOH.

Wound up in ER in withdrawal.

New plan: Zofran/Zanaflex, Clonidine. Addiction consult.
Recommending gabapentin as substitution for addiction until can get better treatment with addiction specialist.

you can wait for the ADM consult for suboxone, but you can also start it now. they've already precipitated withdrawal.

id be wary of gabapentin - yes it is probably milder but still has addictive potential.
