Are you in-state at one of those schools? I'm partial to MU, but that is my undergrad, and I have been very pleased with the education I've received. Their med school certainly has a great reputation for primary care. I also interviewed at KU and thought it was a good school, too.

I interviewed and was accepted at both...for family medicine go to Mizzou. No if an's or buts...that is one of the best schools for family medicine around. Now if you are Kansas resident I think you are crazy to pay Mizzou's oos tuition. They are both good schools so I don't think you can go wrong, but Mizzou's small class, PBL focus and dedication to primary care will serve you better than it will me. Both cities have their pros and cons...the respective patient bases have their pros or cons. One thing I'm sure you know about is KU is starting their curriculum change next year...so in other word if we went we would both be guinea pigs...that said I really enjoyed the faculty at both institutions and either is a solid choice, but if you for sure want to do FP I really think Mizzou should be your choice.

Are you going to the University of Iowa? My brother attended dental school there and that was my first choice - alas, I am no longer a Iowa resident and was looked over by the school... (excuses, excuses, huh?) What do you think about allopathic verses osteopathic? I'm also applying at KCUMB. I'm a Missouri resident living in Kansas City.

If you are a MO resident, then without a doubt I would pick MU over KU. I would also choose allopathic over osteopathic because of a lot of different reasons. People on here get into arguments all the time over which one is better. Unless you really love the osteopathic approach and don't think you could be happy without it, I would choose allopathic.

So far it looks like I'm gonna be at Iowa (unless I get a Mayo appointment soon...those were my top two starting off) although i really liked both Missouri and Kansas. For the money don't bother with the osteopathic schools unless they are your only option. I'm not here to start a war about allo vs. osteo but my personal belief is that the allopathic schools are better schools from a funding and research standpoint. I only looked at allopathic schools, and the only osteopathic school I am really familiar with is DMU since I grew up in Des Moines. They produce good doctors but I only know a few people around who would turn down the chance to go to KU or Mizzou for an osteopathic school...this is of course coming from someone who wants to specialize...to be honest if you want to do FP go wherever is the least expensive because you won't have any worries getting an FP resident from any allo or osteopathic school in this country.

Thanks for the input, so it sounds like Mizzou is my best choice. Anyone else have any input? It would seem that the schools I'm looking at aren't all that well represented at this site.

Just curious, why are you asking what other people decided???

Why don't you visit the schools, meet with the faculty, ask them questions. See which program fits YOU best.

Mizzou has a certain feel that I loved when I was there. I haven't been to KU, so I couldn't tell you one way or another. Anyway, it only matters what you think, and how well you mesh with the administration, and the general culture. Good luck. 👍

I have been to both schools, but have only gotten somewhat biased feelings about the schools from the tour guide and professors etc. I was hoping when entering this site to get honest information from current students at the two schools, but the way its set up, I can only post a thread in the premed section.
The difficulty for me lies in the fact that I got excited about all three schools I visited directly after visiting them. My favorite just depended on which school was my last visit which I realize isn't an accurate indicator of which school is best.
I also have two young children (2 1/2 and 6 months) and work full time so I don't have a lot of time to go to the schools again.
