I'm currently a psychology major and I was getting ready to take some Chemistry classes and I have a question. Is it necessary to take the Chemistry labs that are supposed to go with them? I was checking the admissions criteria for some med schools and they didn't say anything about the labs. Maybe this is just a long shot, I'm hoping to not have to take them.
Thanks for any info you can give me?

I'm not sure about your school or what chemistry classes in particular you are referring to. But, some include lab aready in the course or as a co-req. It's not really necessary unless you major requires it, but I get the impression you don't want to take them anyways.

for most premed requirements (two semesters gen chem, two of organic) you need to take whatever lab comes along with them.
if you want to try and take only one semester of lab for each, you might get away with it but some schools won't accept it unless that's all your school offers. that's been my experience, anyway.

i know labs are a huge pain in the butt, but it's a much bigger pain to have to go back and take them later, or worse not to get in to your top school.
besides, you'll learn some totally useless skills, such as using a spectrophotometer and making azo dyes - you wouldn't want to miss out on that fun!

If you care to apply to med school, most schools are clear about the science classes "with lab" in the prereqs. Read the MSAR.

as there seems to be somewhat mixed messages in this thread - and in reality it's actually pretty clear cut - I am going to re-enforce Mike's statement. Read the MSAR - For most schools you must have the labs.

Most schools explicitly state on their web site that they require a year of biology which includes a lab. Even if it's not explicitly stated, it's assumed.
