That was just my TA though. Some people barley had to do anything. He used to drill us everyday on NMR Spec stuff. The benefit is that we all learned so much.

Please, sweet baby Jesus, let the lab reports be over.

Haha... they are over, but you have other BS to deal with in its place.

if anyone is pursuing research or attempting to pursue research i would think keeping a lab notebook and writing up your findings (AKA lab report) would still happen during d school

Srsly...a lab report, you can take home with you, sit on your couch and type away if you wanted to...dental school lab projects on the other hand can not only be frustrating but you have to do it in class or after school at the lab. dental lab work, you're never sure how long something is going to take because it's probably the first time you've ever done it. with college labs, after the first couple, you kinda already know what you need to do to get full credit

Please elaborate.
dental school feels more like high school than college because you're stuck with the same 100 people for the next four years and you're all taking the same classes from 8 am- 5 pm. dental school is like college because of the level of difficulty but it's different because you're taking twice as many credit hours and only have the hours after 5 pm to study. in college, you basically do nothing for a couple weeks, then study for a weekend, take an exam, and repeat. in dental school, it's like you're reliving finals week from college almost every week because of all the lab practicals and exams. it feels like there's a lot more time consuming, non lab report stuff that you gotta do.

but yea, lab reports are over...

Haha, I wish I could write lab reports right now. You'll soon understand -- a lot of times, your lab projects need to be done a bunch of times because it gets botched because you're clueless, or the instructor thinks you can do better.

Good news is you don't have any lab reports to write up anymore. Bad news is they will keep you busy with other annoying activities.

What do you imagine doing your GPR? Clinics require a level of communication...

I agree with sgv. The lab-work in dental school is a bit extreme if you ask me. Once you graduate you'll do very little of it, if any at all. And throw in all the exams and practicals during D1 and D2 year, and then clinical competencies left and right during D3/D4. Not to mention the NERB and NBDE Parts I and II. You'll get through it all but sometimes you will wish you were back doing lab reports 🙂

oh man, the responses are making me nervous again. I've read other posts where people ask how to prepare for dental school, and most of the replies stress that it's your last vacation for a bit so you should just relax...do you guys (current dental students and dentists) wish you would've done something to prepare? If so, what and how much of it?

No! take a vacation and have a good memory to remember about before selling your soul to dental school. The little amount of studying isn't worth the awesome amount of free time and fun you could have. I studied and even if it did help me, i wish i had fun.

Dental school projects sound a lot like research lab experiments. You will fail so many times, but you got to keep repeating the experiments until you get what you want..
