~Labor day submitters, what have you heard from the schools you’ve applied to?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hold for Mayo and that's it. I heard that a lot of Labor Day apps might be queued for review in November since admissions offices are so backed up right now. I applied to a few MSTP last minute since I have a very strong research background. My stats are pretty good and I think my app is pretty strong. I also applied to around 50 schools, so perhaps it is just a delay in review by adcoms. If my app and letters were poor, I would have straight up been rejected by Mayo than put on hold. I also got a secondary from UCSF, which means my AMCAS was pretty good

I applied after labor day. All of my secondaries went in between Sept 15-19th. I took CASPer on Sept 26th. Results were delivered about two weeks later - Oct 9th, I believe. Some of my schools needed it; Others did not.

Anywho, I’ve gotten one postsecondary R (JABSOM), have been on one interview, have one more II, and one interview hold (Mayo MN 2+2). One school (Stanford) still hasn’t even sent a complete email. Another (ETSU) sent me a complete email only yesterday.

Just thought I’d give you a heads up on my status since my LizzyM is as average as they come (though I don’t think my overall application is). For most schools, next week is week 5 since submitting my secondary, so I’ve got my fingers crossed that I start hearing something soon!

Good luck to ya’ll and please make sure to keep updating the spreadsheet as those of us later in the cycle still benefit from the tracking and those in the future will, too!

Heck yeah! We just gotta give them overworked adcoms time to catch up with the heavy workload!

I've been closely keeping tracking of most of my schools. The vast majority of IIs so far are going to those complete in July and early to mid August. Guess we just have to wait. In regards to Stanford, just check your portal. It should say if you are complete or not.

Also, hooah!

Yeah it seems that way! I do wonder if we’re seeing a serious sample bias though because so many of SDNers are early applicants. So, I wonder how reflective the spreadsheet is of the overall population.

Irregardless, I just don’t think most schools have quite made it to us yet. The bad news is that maybe half the interview slots are taken. The good news is that there’s still half to go!

Thanks guys/gals, glad i’m not alone out here!! Received my first ii yesterday Over the phone , LM ~73

keep updating this thread when you start hearing back!

Let’s be real though. The holds were probs more like, “We’re in awe. HOLD PLEASE while we catch our breath.” 😛
thank you for such a nice vote of confidence. The holds are for the schools I actually can't really see myself attending given my situation and etc. But they are really good schools as well. So this process is quite random and also involves a lot of mutual understanding between the school and applicants. You just never know!

My app was complete after Labor Day. Two II so far, but that's about it.

3 II but these were all from schools complete in July/Aug. 0 II from the ones complete in early Sept. Truly wishing I had submitted all my secondaries early :’)

How many secondaries did you submit in July/Aug and how many in early Sept. It would be nice to see an internal comparison

LM ~75, Non URM, only II has been IS preference. All quiet so far. Complete end of August

Applied on labor day to 10ish T20s hoping my interview train continued; managed to get 1 so far.

I think better than I thought (so far) given that I didn't submit my first secondary until mid August. My last one was submitted right before labor day.
A couple of T10/20s had a turnaround time of 2 weeks. My other interviews ~ month or so..

I submitted mostly between 8/21 - 9/5, with one on 9/10 and another mid September (oh Duke, you wiley secondary you). I have heard absolutely zilch. Figure no news is better than bad news. My stats are in my signature and I think I have a decent app. But I am average in that I don't really fit into any special categories. Figure my time will come in November but I hate the waiting, lol.

Submitted in approximately the same time range. Most schools are backed up and I heard that the majority of Labor Day apps will be reviewed in November.

Not labor day but submitted most of my apps mid-August. Haven't heard back from anyone yet...

That's very impressive, congratulations! Would you mind sharing a couple of stats? Just wondering if anything set you apart that ad-coms immediately picked up on

Are you me? Also was thrilled to get the UCSF secondary but all I've really gotten is a hold from Mayo. Glad someone else is in the same boat. I've got good stats, research, and extracurriculars but weak clinical experience, so I've been worried. Complete mid-August but one of my recommendations was turned in 9/12 :/ Already brainstorming contingency plans for next year.

I got an II yesterday

@Engrailed has a pretty stellar app/other things going for them that might have gotten them bumped at some of the schools they mentioned.

haha hey there @tessellations 😀 😀 😀
I’ve PM’ed the person a brief blurb about my application. I think ultimately it comes down to having a strong narrative. Fingers crossed... who knows!

JHU sent me an email today letting me know that my app has been sent to the admissions committee for review. This is the first thing I’ve heard from schools since I was complete. Glad to know my app hasn’t been completely lost in space, hahaha.

Still sitting on one II, hoping to get some love from my own state schools.

3.83/502
I applied to 2 M.D. schools (both in-state) at end of August and got invited to interview at both. Already attended one interview, the other is scheduled a few months later.
Honestly, I am surprised how well it's been. I supposed that's the perks of being in a "lucky" state!

Same! Also today. I was a little confused about what this actually means (is it a hold? does it mean they'll look at it soon?) but after finding no immediate answers I'm not sweating it. Hopefully we'll both get some responses soon!

I got AORTA status at USF and I'm on hold/have the hold message at GW. Not sure if I should take this as soft R's or not but
Sorry if this is very uninformed, what is AORTA status?
