Dear Ob colleagues,

First, a disclaimer: I'm not an Ob and am not training to become one. However, I am interested in work/life issues, and I'm intrigued by laborists, who focus on labor and delivery. It seems that their work may be amenable to more of a shift-work schedule. ("Shift-work", by the way, is not a dirty term in my opinion.) I can imagine that laborists would work 12-24 hour shifts that would add up to 36-48 hours per week, with a monthly average of about 40 hours/week.

Is this how it works? If so, it seems pretty humane!
