I only have 3 at this point, I applied to 20.

Step 1 and 2 over 255, all honors. What are these programs looking for? Should I make some calls or send out more apps?

I don't want to have to soap into an awful intern year.

I feel your concern. I applied to 20 and only have 4. I guess I'm significantly less worried, though. My home program (WVU) has a pretty good TY, and they usually take their own. You might want to throw an application our way. The TY here is definitely not cush, works hard and has quite a few wards months, but it would be better than a lot of other places that I've heard about.

When I applied last year, the prelim/TY interviews trickled in during the entire application season, as late as January. Don't get me wrong, prelims in popular locations and cush TYs are very competitive, some even more competitive than many radiology programs. And some applicants underestimate how competitive popular prelims and TYs are and only apply to a few or only the most competitive ones that everyone wants. But they do trickle in slowly but surely. I matched at a program that sent the interview invitation in December.
