Thank you guys for ur help!!! I actaully went shopping today and found a grey blazer that fits! My dress is black n im wearing black shoes n have a black bag so I think they grey will be a good match.
Also one more question if you guys dont mind (cos u guys all seem so knowledgable).....do u think girls shoudl keep their blazers on throughout the interview? Esp me cos my dress is sleeveless?

bringing the old thread back
is it okay to have bangs or does it look better if we pin them? Also can we take flats with us and do the tour in flats and wear the heels for the interviews?

I'm not sure on the bangs issue, it probably depends on how long they are.

As far as the switching shoes...I hear of people doing this, but the adviser at my state school said it's better to just go in flats or suffer through than to switch shoes in the middle. She's a Ph.D. and has sat in on several admissions committees at both the dental schools in my state so I guess she must know what she's talking about.

LOL! I am so glad this issue has been posted 🙂

Thanks for everyone's great responses!
I went shopping this weekend (what a task!!!)
Womens suits are very difficult to find if you are not wanting to spend $400 (+).

For those still shopping... I went to every store you can think of (Ann Taylor, Bananna Rep., Chicos, New York & Co., Dillards, etc). I found a great 2 piece at Macy's for about $100.

Good luck shopping ladies 🙂

Shopping was difficult for me too!! Ann Taylor has a lot of suits, but I ended up getting a pantsuit at Nordstrom. I wanted a skirt suit, but a lot of those come with the "cutsie" jackets with ruffles and such... My advice is start early!!

Also, I have bangs, and I just plan on getting them trimmed a few days before my interview. I think I will hairspray them in place and hope they don't get in my face 🙄.

Agreed and Agreed!
Start Early 🙂
Ignor the Stylish Stuff 🙁
(Don't appear to be high maitnance!)

My interview is in 2 weeks and I just started shopping. Did not find anything yesterday (macys, express, banana republic, ann taylor)..will continue tomorrow. Nothing fits!!! Did you guys get the suits fitted afterwards?

I was lucky enough to find one that fit me perfectly. You might want to check the petite section at some of the major depatrment stores.

The first suit I bought was too big and my bf had to nicely point this out. (Although I said nicely, my female-feelings were totally hurt 🙁 )
I went back the next day and found a petite and the fit is way better!

Hope this helps!

Express really ticked me off!
They usually come through with flying colors in terms of supplying clean cut, professional looking clothes. I was really disappointed with their selection this year. Only 2 suit tops to choose from, and they were very short (in terms of waist lenght)

I give express a big thumbs down for this year! 👎

I had a difficult time finding something too. I was a little sad. It's so hard when for ladies like me with long torsos 😉

just got blazer + pants from theory. theory fits really nicely and is easy to shop at. well, except for the length of pants. they come really long and needs alteration.

I know it may sound trivial, but I'd like you ladies (maybe even men) opinion. For females that are wearing slacks, pant suits, or trousers. Are your pants pleated and cuffed? What's more professional? Unpleated and uncuffed or the opposite?

Cuffs tend to make legs look shorter so if you're on the petite side you should stay away from them. Pleats have a tendecy to either look too trend-oriented if the pants sit just above the hip or they can make your stomach look big if the waist is higher. Either way it's not a good look. Stick with a straight leg with no cuff, it's just a cleaner, more professional style. You generally want your pants to be fitted through the thigh and stay the same length all the way down. Don't get anything narrower at the bottom than the top and try to stay away from overly flared pants as well.

PS - your interviewers probably won't care about or notice particular styles, just look clean and presentable 🙂

Thanks moosefox! Your explanation makes sense. Appreciate the time you took to post back. Nervvvvvvvvvous for my interview!

I shopped and shopped and shopped...Ann Taylor, Banana Republic...anywhere you could possibly think of to find a nice suit. I had so much trouble finding an outfit that wasn't "trendy" or with a lot of frou-frou. I ended up going into Kasper and finding several suits that I loved. It seemed like a lot of old lady clothes when I looked through the window, but they had a ton of really classy, simple suits. I settled on a black pinstriped 3-button jacket and pants with an ice blue satin shirt. At my interview, I was very glad to have taken that route. Prices at Kasper were great too. I ended up with my suit and shirt for $139, which left lots of money to splurge on some great shoes...😍 Above all, wear what you will be most comfortable in. If it doesn't fit quite right or you have any doubts, you will be self-conscious throughout your whole interview, which will read loud and clear to the adcom. Be confident and be yourself!!!! Good luck to all with upcoming interviews!!!:luck:

P.S. Don't be ashamed to buy some shapewear to wear under your suit if you are a curvy girl (like me 😀 ). You will be amazed at how much more confident you will be in it!

i too, didn't like anything they had at Ann Taylor there was just too much going on. I ended up getting a suite from Banana Republic and i got an ICE BLUE satin top too! i would've liked a bold bright blue, but an ice blue satin top would be nice for the fall/winter .

good luck at your interview!

So I am still trying to find a suit (my interview is coming next friday..I hope I am not too late). I am looking for a skirt suit because they look better on me than pant suit but do you guys think the weather is too cold now and pant suit would be better. Are we allowed to take a jacket and wear it through the tour if its too cold and maybe take it off during the interview?

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/outfit.do?cid=41572&oid=OUT19126

I got this for right now and the skirt is longer on me..any suggestions..i give up!!

Having your shoulders show is a big no-no, even if you have a valid reason. A cardigan would work but I think you can pretty much bet everyone else will have a jacket on; it doesn't have to be fancy or expensive...or even yours! Is there anyone you can borrow a jacket from? That would be my suggestion but if you can't find anything, I would maybe wear a dress shirt with pants or skirt instead, just so your arms aren't exposed. Good Luck though!

I bought a black conservative dress that came with a bolero jacket... Is it okay to wear the conservative dress or do you highly recommend getting a skirt suit instead?
