I actually would care way more if you guys hadn't dated for 6 or so years. Which you've already done.

I'm a lil jealous you get to have a wedding and a getaway before school starts. I'm in the throes of wedding planning myself for next summer between M1 and M2, and it's super expensive and exhausting.
 
Haha yea man.. 6.5 years about. Maui is gonna be so awesome before school starts 😉 But our families want to have a regular ceremony/reception for everyone so I ALSO have to plan for next summer between M1 and M2 🙁

Kind of off-topic. But damn, I just typed 1400 words for the rough draft of my personal statement. Do most people just keep typing away and not realize that they cant stop and end up going way over character count? lol

I think it's partially because we've been through some trials in life and are still pressing ahead. Plus, I think the majority of us realize that issues ranging from navigating med school to healthcare issues can only be done as a team. 🙂

Just to add to that, I think because DO schools matriculate more non-trad students it means they are, mostly, more mature/experienced. I interviewed at 2 MD schools and 2 DO schools and it seemed to me that at the DO schools, everyone was about my age (26) while at the MD schools I felt like Father Time.

Yeah I have a feeling at my age (32) I will be feeling like Father Time in many ways.

Yep this is my application year. I'm looking at a lot of programs including RVU, Western, AZCOM, DMU, and a few others for DO schools. MD I'm still trying to figure those out but so far am thinking about Univ. Colorado and Univ. Wisconsin. I've considered a few others and will be spending more time researching this in the next few weeks.

Been there, done that. It sucks but you'll reach a point where you're satisfied with your PS. You'll get there. How long have you been working on it?

A few days. Got two drafts out pretty quickly, but both got pretty bad reviews from SDNers. Working on a third draft now. This one is taking much longer though.
 
Are you guys using any books to read PS examples? or did you just dive straight into writing one. I am contemplating if investing into these books will be a waste or not.

It'll probably be a waste... the best thing to do is to just open a word document and start typing. You don't have to start with the intro... just whatever you want to talk about, start typing. Create different paragraphs, and then combine them together. Some will fit perfectly, others you'll have to scrap, and others you'll need to tweak a bit.

I can send you mind if you want, as an example PS.

that would be a tremendous help. please PM it to me. I would just like to read it as an example to see what a good PS is structured like. promise will not copy anything from it.
