Just wondering if anyone woud be bold enough to tell me who our leaders are in our field. I'm not talking about positions in the Academy, or in the AAP. I mean people who are not just medically but more importantly politically/socially bringing PM&R into the forefront. I have been a member of this board for a short time but there is inevitably a return to the same bitter theme of no respect/no publicity/mismanagement of who we are. Are there people who are known for their work as physiatrists bringing more publicity to the field or who are out there marketing and getting this profession into the spotlight? PM's would be more than welcome if naming names is not wanted on a public forum.

Not sure why naming names would be inappropriate for such a complimentary topic. Without a doubt, Michelle Gittler of Schwab Rehab in Chicago. She has definitely bridged a huge gap in terms of devoting her expertise to an inner-city population while maintaining respect from "respected" specialities such as neurosurgery and orthopedics across the city at least. Without a doubt there are many others out there who would echo this sentiment.

Russo and Mukai.

I'm an arch enemy, maybe even the Lex Luther. Zimmerman is the Octavius (Spiderman vilian).
We are still looking for a Solomon Grundy.

hello, michelle, and how are you today?

i like to think that i know our field reasonably well, and I have never heard of her. thats gotta say something.

anyway, you arent going to find many superstars out there in our field that the lay public would know. then again, how many ophthalmologists or gastroenterologists can you name, either.

for better or worse, the names that come to mind are malanga, slipman, kirschblum, furman, and sarno.

guess you should get out more then. the topic in question wasn't to decide who SSdoc knows. 🙂 with respect, of course.

I am always hearing about Joel DeLisa and Andrew Haig.

(I don't know either of these people and am not either of these people.)
