Anyone hear anything new yet?

Nada I called A.S. and left a message asking for updates and she never returned my call. I'm pretty much at the too late stage to go there, but good luck to all of you still waiting:luck::luck::luck::luck:

Nothing here either... yet. I spoke to JF on Thursday?-- she said so far the list has been moving slow. Just a couple of people withdrew so far. I hope we hear something soon-- hang in there guys 🙄.

Same here. My call hasn't been returned. I think I've lost all hope at this point 🙁

I was called on June 20th and told I was in the next group of ten on the alternate list (I was number 8) and that they were going to send me the matriculation packet to get started in case spots open. I called yesterday (Monday) and spoke to AS and found out that I am currently number 4. I asked her how that looks for me considering we're 3 weeks away. She said that last year at least 8 people dropped that she knows of between this time and the day school started. So if the trend goes on the way it does, then I would assume that they're going to move on to the next group of 10. I would recommend doing all you can to get ranked in the top 10 of the next group...anything to beef up your application.

It also seems like they pushed the deadline for the paper work to July 13th-this friday...so who knows what will happen after that! Plus, I've been keeping up with the facebook group (I know this might seem excessive, but LECOM is the only school I applied to!) and more people joined today...which could mean that they're moving through the list. Hold in there everyone!!

If my calculations serve me right, and you were #8 before, and now #4, six more people still need to be pulled from the group of 10 ahead of mine and Dr. GG's. Hmmm...

You know what guys? I've prayed about what time is best for me to do this med school thing, and I have no doubt as to IF it's going to happen, just not sure when. I hope you will each be OK with applying again next year if you don't get a big A this go around.

wintspgs, it sounds like it's very hopeful for you yet! I'm glad you were able to get in touch with AS. Oh, and btw, I called today and was not greeted with a warm response. I was advised that tooo many calls were being received, kinda along the lines of don't call us, we'll call you. I guess I am over doing it, but I just wanted to find out the latest. I felt kinda bad after the call because I realized just how many calls they must be getting and I know she didn't mean to be kinda short. I guess I will have to be "anxious for nothing, but by prayer and supplication, let my requests be made known unto the Lord." Oh, and maybe send one more letter! 🙄

I'm in the same boat as you fabulous. I didn't apply to any other school because I felt that's where the Lord was calling me. Its been a very long road, but it has definitely strengthened my faith and my dependence on God. A friend of mine got into LECOM over a month ago from the waitlist, and it hit me so hard because I believed I had a stronger application and better interview than her. I came to grasp better that God really is above all our credentials and all our circumstances...and there's definitely a comfort in that. I've desired medical school my whole life and this experience took me to a point where I truly had to surrender my most desired ambition in life but I can't even explain how excited I was at the possibility of something else that's a complete mystery to me now, but in God's will. It's funny because I didn't even get the phone call from LECOM until I was at that point...getting it a month ago with my friend would not have been the best thing for me. Even though I'm #4 now, it really doesn't matter if that's not where God wants me. So if we get in, then praise Christ and if not then praise Him too!

I also came across this post a few months ago http://forums.studentdoctor.net/archive/index.php/t-106811.html

I never wrote a letter of intent, because I got really busy. But I think writing a passionate one about why you want to be a doctor and why lecom wouldn't hurt. I wouldn't make it as long as the guy who posted did, but just as long as it needs to be to reveal your heart for medicine to them.

Hey guys have you heard anything more from the waitlist? I check here to see if you all got in. Seems kinda slow right now.

Nope, nothing here, yet. Just waiting patiently 🙄. I know you mentioned b4 that the time frame passed for you to come to L-Br if you do get accepted... why is that? Have you been accepted somewhere else?

I got a phone call today and was accepted! So I'm going to LECOM! 3 people dropped within the last 48 hours. There's finally a movement! Hold in there...there's still time!!

:banana::banana:Congratulations!!!:banana::banana:

Yaye wintspgs! I'm so happy you got your acceptance! And thanks btw for the update... hmm, three more people brings it closer to my group... oh sheesh, the suspense is a bear!! I hope to see you there! Are you planning on relocating to Bradenton or are you staying in Tpa?

Sorry shasta, that was a dumb question. I recall you mentioning previously that you've been accepted to DCOM. If by chance you don't get into LECOM-B, on the plus side I've heard that Tennessee has a very low cost of living. Hey, and atleast you have an "A" under your belt. When do you plan on making your move?

Thank you fabulous 🙂 I'll be moving to bradenton. Hopefully I'll find a good roommate and relocate soon! I'm excited that the alternate list is moving. Just two more people remain in the group of ten ahead of you! So there is still hope!!

I have been accepted to DCOM I am leaving next week. In a few days actually. LECOM-B was my first choice because of family reasons but I am happy to be accepted and am looking forward to starting. My time limitation comes from being able to change my move destination and that time has come and gone. You're right about cost of living the rent is pretty cheap, it's tougher to find housing though because it's a small town and a new school. It's all going to work out though I just know it. Keep me posted on your status ok?

Now that they're going to need to rank the next set of 10 on the waitlist, will they call to let us know our number our should we call? I don't want to keep calling and annoy them. Anyone heard anything new?

When I was on the list, they called me here and there to keep me updated. If you're going to call, I wouldn't do it around lunch time. Usually everyone is gone for lunch, and the person that stays behind gets super overwhelmed. I swung by to drop off my paper work during lunch =)

I want to hear good news from you guys!!!

Thanks. I did wind up calling but my rank really doesn't look promising for me. Good luck to the rest of you.

For those of you who made it in and are interested, your schedule for the first semester has been posted on the server. It seems that they have changed a few things from last year. You will be in orientation for four days in the morning, but you will actually have a few hours of anatomy lecture each day of orientation. That should keep you from falling asleep in the afternoon. And, your first anatomy exam is Monday, the 13th; your second one is Monday, the 27th. Wow! two of them beofre Labor Day. I'll bet you can't wait 🙂 PBL won't begin until the week of the 20th. You'll only have it once a week until anatomy is over. Then it will be three afternoons a week. Anyway... good luck :luck::luck::luck: For those of you who haven't gotten in yet, there's still another week to go. Never give up hope!

Yeah, I was looking at the schedule and didn't think they did any actual lectures during some of the previous year's orientations...... I know they say they're always tweaking the schedule and figured it'd be good to get a good start with some lectures.

Did you do any reading at all before classes started? (Mainly anatomy)?

Reading before hand will do you no good. You'll learn more in two days of med school anatomy than you would ever study in a week on your own. Just take it easy for another week. Spend some time partyin' while you still have a chance 🙂

Thanks for the advice. In my case it'll be more like spend my last week packing and doing a last minute move! 🙄

I'm an incoming MS1, I have received the orientation week schedule already. Where did you get the full semester info and test dates? I have checked the school web site and SGA- but can only find last Spring schedules.

It's on the server. You may not be able to access that until you get here.

I'm 2nd on the waitlist and LECOM starts in 5 days...talk about suspenseful!!!

Oh my gosh! That's so exciting Dr. GG!!! I think you're going to get in =) It must be nerve wrecking though! Last year, three people were called the first day of school. I would assume some people will drop before than too. Best wishes!! Let us know what happens!

Holy cow..... I'm not sure I'd be able to stay sane in that situation. Good luck and I'm pulling for ya!! Let us know once you hear from them and we can help catch you up in any way needed.

Where in Florida are you currently?

Just stopped by school today for some pre-orientation check-in formalities and was able to meet a few of ya'll already.

Hoping and praying for you Dr. GG!!! Keep us posted... and don't forget to breathe... 🙂

Dr. GG, I have my fingers crossed for you...

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all your cheering on!I had totally given up hope and was moving on to plan B so I was shocked when the list moved that much. I actually got another call later today that i'm now #1!!! holy crap! It is hard to stay sane right now but luckily I'm only about an hour away from the school. I'd have to commute for a week or so until I could recruit everyone I know to help me move. I have an apartment picked out so hopefully I'll have some good news very soon and I can go sign that lease!

#1 that is great news. Hopefully you will get the official yes very soon. Let me know if you need any help getting caught up.

Dr. GG, let me know if you need help too =)

it's not going to help much...if you're real curious and want an idea you can look at a brs (board review series, you'll learn to recognize this very soon) gross anatomy book or anatomy recall book. it's straight memorization and barfing it out, both are good for that and give you a good idea of how questions go. but honestly, just enjoy the rest of your vacation.

those that got in, congrats and make a list, start getting your moving, legal stuff, mail change, power turn on...etc done. you can do a lot of it over the phone/internet. that's just one less problem to deal with b/c time will get tight and you don't want to waste it standing in line at the DMV.

for those who didn't get in....hang in there. a few guys got in the last day before school started. 👍

feel free to PM if you got questions
see you in a few weeks

I think it's great that a few posts ago you said your rank on the list didn't look promising and now you're #1! Hopefully you'll get wonderful news soon! :luck:

Does anyone know if LECOM is open on the weekend? Or if there's some extension I can call without getting a recording? This is going to kill me if I have to wait until monday to find anything out.

They might be open tomorrow (Sunday) because they're having an open house, but I don't think they usually are open on weekends. I really think you're in Dr. GG 🙂

The building is open every Sunday, but the staff isn't usually there. Some will be there for the open house, though. I would not recommend that you call because they are incredibly busy right now. I doubt they'll even anserr the phone because the receptionist won't be working. They will call you if you get a spot. Have patience or you may nebver have patients 🙂

It's actually not looking so good again. I just talked to them and the only way I'm getting out of this first waitlist spot is if someone doesn't show up for the first day of class. She said it's pretty unusual for that to happen and everyoneone already confirmed that they were going to be there. 🙁

Hey guys, just wanted to say that a friend of mine withdrew from Lecom-Bradenton during orientation. Hope one of you gets the spot!:luck:

That has to be Dr. GG!!👍👍

That would be nice but they don't accept anyone after the first day even if people drop out. No worries though, they offered me a spot for next year already! That actually works out better for me. Yay for happy endings!

Congratulations Dr.GG!!! Enjoy your year off! You'll look back and be glad you had a break 🙂 We're already swimming with so much material!

aw CONGRATS DR. GG!!!:biglove:
that's so amazing that you know you're in for next year and can relax now! looking forward to meeting you next year if you decide to come here!!

Hey guys, just wanted to say that a friend of mine withdrew from Lecom-Bradenton during orientation. Hope one of you gets the spot!:luck:

woow. Even though I know it worked out best for Dr. GG 🙂D:clap:😀) it kinda stinks that someone would withdraw during orientation when someone else could've had their seat... I hope nothing unfortunate happened beyond his/her control.

I wonder why Lecom begins lectures from the first day of orientation? I would think it costly, as in the case of the student that withdrew, to decide not to admit someone after the first day of orientation because lectures have begun already. And add in the fact the it seems Lecom starts before a lot of other schools do as well. How does that work, anyways? Once you start orientation, are you responsible for paying that year's tuition? 😱 Think, Lecom will miss out on $75 - 100k of tuition over 4 years for that student because at this point, no one is filling in their place...

As for me, I'll be trying and hoping for next year. You guys keep me in your prayers 🙄! And luck on this mcat in Sept... here we go...

btw... I hope all of you that did get in had a fab first week. Please keep us posted on how you're doing! 🙂

I have read, and heard form admissions people, that this is the greatest disappointment of an admissions committee. When you are offered a position, they really want you (or some other qualified applicant) to stay the course, and finish, and become a doctor. This applies both to withdrawals and to students having difficulties passing classes. They really want to help create doctors. When they lose someone, they lose not only the tuition, but they feel that they lost the opportunity to present someone with a chance to become a doctor. Like planting seeds that go ungrown.

This is one of the reasons why the admission process is so trying. They want to make absolutely sure that the people they bring in will become doctors, and will do it in their program.

Now, I am a person who withdrew from two schools to ultimately attend another school. I'm pretty sure my spots have been filled - but I also kept in mind that while I was making my decision, that I must think of myself first and foremost, but not far behind I should think of another person hoping to have the same opportunity that I was offered.

It's a shame that the seat will go unfilled, because I know how much you would have liked to have had it, fabu1ous, with all the sincerity that that's the one place that you would have really liked to attend. I wish you all the best in accomplishing that dream. Hang in there. :luck:
