LECOM-Bradenton Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
the dean of admission is out of town this week, so everything is on hold till next week. so they told me not to expect anything happening this week. 🙁

Haha looks like you and me are in this one together again. Funny how I keep running into you. I feel like I know you. Keep me updated on how things go for you. Always good to have support in this waiting game.
I will buddy, good luck with everything!! I'll probably be seeing you at some interviews haha

Looks like we might as well close up this thread for a week then. See you guys in a week. 🙄

for the ones who got accepted can they please reveal their stats...mcat and gpa?

Frustrating, I'm sure. It was an exam week for all of us on campus... second years had the first big exam of the semester this morning, and first years had an anatomy exam on Monday and have their first PBL test tomorrow.

I don't know if they've bothered having interviews this week, since there's no PBL for interviewees to watch--we get a break to study before exams. In past years, it seems like everyone who's attended an interview without being able to see PBL has complained about it, so it wouldn't surprise me if they just closed up for the week. 2nd years start PBL up again tomorrow, so things should start moving again. Good luck to you all.

Thanks for the update, Altruist!👍

Another update... in the email with our exam grades, they threw in this detail: LECOM has achieved a 100% first time pass rate on the COMLEX step I for the 2nd year in a row. All the scores are in, and everyone in the class of 2012 made it through.

If I'm not mistaken, the passing score for the COMLEX was raised this year, so this is even more impressive than the first time the school managed it.

PBL isn't for everybody, for sure; but as it's done here, it covers what you need to know for Step I. Don't be afraid that you'll miss something by coming here instead of a lecture-based school.

Have a great weekend, everybody.

so anyone been accepted recently? Just wanna know some future classmates!!

Hey guys,

So I have a couple problems.... I got a interview call last Tuesday saying my interview is on Nov. 10th. I then remember receiving an email about it, with attached documents over PBL, etc. For some odd reason I can't find this email anywhere right now (I never delete emails!!)... I was wondering if someone wouldn't mind PMing me these documents from the email? (there were about 3 I believe).

I also don't remember when the interview would be. Should I just ask for them to send me another email? Or would this look bad?

Lastly... Under my "Required Letters and Credits" tab it shows all the items as "Not Yet Met". I sent in my transcript/MCAT scores a long time ago so they should have it. What should I do??

Thanks

I can't be of help for the first part as I am still waiting for an invite, but for the second part: you sent your transcript/mcat to the school? they should have recieved all of that from AACOMAS! and they would not have invited you for an interview had those requirements not been met! I'd probably just call them monday morning and ensure thats a computer error.

Thanks for the reply:

Funny thing... I actually found the email in my Junk Email box. I guess there was a delay in the filtering process. Aye!! haha

I meant that I sent my transcript/MCAT to AACOMAS. I'll call sometime today and ask them what's up.

Oh 1 more question... on the LECOM website it says to submit the prehealth committee LOR once you get an interview invite, and the DO LOR if you get accepted. But in the email it sounds like they want both prior to the interview. Which one is accurate?

Thanks!!

A pre-health committee letter (or individual LoRs) and a DO letter is a requirement for every DO school I've seen. Correct me if you've found one that doesn't have that requirement. Just get them both in ASAP.

The DO letter requirement is becoming a thing of the past. Most DO schools just require a physicians letter (DO or MD).

After much consideration, I've decided PBL only is just not for me. Does anyone know how we withdraw from a campus or cancel an interview? Or if LECOM-B has a way to do it online? I won't have time to call them during their business hours until Wednesday, and I'd like some other student to be able to schedule it quickly.

I'm currently scheduled for 10/22 btw if anyone wants to keep a lookout for a spot.

my guess is to just email lauren by replying to the interview invite confirmation email

anyone hear anything from Lecomb this week yet?

they said that the committee was meeting today and that we could call Wednesday afternoon at the earliest if we really really must know, otherwise they would prefer we wait for the official letter

good luck!! I need some more future classmates

It has been awhile since I visited this thread. I finally have enough money to send in this huge deposit 😛

For those wondering I had an MCAT in the mid 30's and a sub 3.5 GPA

Good luck to everyone!

Cool. Everywhere I looked at applying 2 years ago required it. It was kind of a stressful thing finding a DO and then having to get to shadow!

Lecom-b Does require a DO letter. However, I was unable to get a DO letter and sent in a MD letter instead. During my interview they asked why I hadn't gotten a DO letter. I told them that in my area it was hard to find one. They said, "OK before you leave today we will have you talk with a DO and get the letter situation fixed." So after the day ended I met with a DO. We talked for about 30 mins about osteopathic medicine, myself, and what I wanted to do after which he filled out a sheet to sub for the missing DO letter. The end.

I'm not sure if all DO schools that require a DO letter do this... but this is what happened to me at a school that does require a DO letter. I believe if the school really wants you, they wont let a letter get in the way of accepting you (if there is a reasonable explanation). So if you got an interview and you haven't sent in a DO letter... I would relax and go to the interview first before you spend hours calling around sweeting over this.

BTW fun fact...there is this pond about 50' from the building at LECOM-B. During the tour I asked if anyone fished in there (as more of a joke) to the med student. He said, "yeah sometimes... but I wouldn't, there's an alligator in there... but he isn't big." "An alligator! How big is he?" I asked. "Oh like 6-7 feet." The med student says nonchalantly. OK I'm not from FL. but if I ran into a wild prehistoric animal bigger than I was... I wouldn't be so calm about it. So if you go there... don't fish!

Withdrew from my waitlist spot today!!! Not sure if its going to help anyone... Haha.

thats not very big, there are tons that size all over the place in florida. 10-12 is a big alligator. But unless you mess with them or do something that their food does that don't really bother anyone. There are fewer alligator attacks than shark attacks.

I haven't seen the alligator for a while. The admissions people will tell you it's "Lee, the LECOM alligator," but they're the only people who call it that. You see it mainly when it's sunning itself on the far side of the pond from the school, which it only seems to do once it cools off a bit more in October/November. I've seen it swimming in the near end of the pond a couple of times, but it's really nothing to worry about. If it's aggressive, it only takes it out on the pharmacy students.

(The sharks with frickin' lasers on their heads that live in the pond are a different matter, of course...)

Back when we had anatomy last year, I'd go sit outside by the pond with my morning coffee in between lectures just about every day. I never saw the alligator once in that time. And while I'm on the topic... I'm not sure the pond is something I'd fish in, even without anything else. It's pretty much a pool of murky swamp water with 3 fountains in it. Looks nice from a distance, though. 🙂

I'll be calling to withdraw my acceptance this week... (deposit is due on Friday anyways and I haven't sent it lol). Good luck everyone!

Withdrew, pre interview this morning. 10/22 should have an open spot, if anyone wants it. Best of luck to all.

So this is what i received today....

First:

The Office of Admissions at LECOM Erie has processed your supplemental application. You can monitor the status of your application by logging on to the LECOM Candidate Portal.

Second, 3 minutes later:

This letter is to advise you of the status of your application to LECOM Bradenton.
The Admissions Committee has reviewed your file and a decision has not yet been made regarding an interview. The Admissions Committee will meet to review your application within sixty days; you will be notified of their decision at that time.

Not sure what this means....should I be upset, happy it wasnt a rejection, or remain neutral? Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks!

Happened to me too. 🙁 I feel like seats are filling up and I'm being left in the dust! Let me know if you hear any news from them! I wish you the best!

don't loose hope! that happened to me also, but about 3 weeks after they changed my status to that, i got a call for an interview and now am accepted🙂

good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews! the schools gorgeous, and everyone is so nice!

Haha doubtful. I actually received December something and asked to be moved to the earliest since I have finals in December. This is a great school.
ahhh smart!! im just gonna stick with my date and go there when its freezing cold in nyc haha

So I got this email from LECOM today:

You were sent a letter offering you alternate status for acceptance to LECOM Bradenton class of 2015 and asking that you confirm your acceptance to the alternate position.

We have not received a confirmation from you as of the date of this letter. Your name will be removed from LECOM Bradenton's alternate list.

First of all, I never got that letter offering me the alternate position... Scary. I called for my status and they told me I was an alternate so I accepted over the phone. But the funny part is, I called them a few days ago and withdrew my application after being waitlisted... 😀

My status just changed to the "a decision has been made. You will be receiving a letter in the mail in 30 days."

I'm so nervous. It's going to be the longest month ever. It's probably a rejection since it's kind of late in the cycle and my stats aren't that great. 🙁

Pre-interview rejection... It was a bummer, because I really liked the idea of their PBL curriculum... Sigh...

Good luck to the rest of you!

hey I was wondering for the people that have gone on an interview, what airport did you guys fly into and how much was a rental car? thnx

Flying into Tampa. The prices are way better and the drive isn't too bad. You're gonna be needing a rental care regardless of which airport you go to. I guess you MAY be able to find one who offers both airport and bradenton shuttle - let me know cause I can't find one. Anyone interviewing on 11/3?

yeah I think i'm gonna fly into Tampa too, and rent a car, I wouldn't do shuttle just because I would feel more comfortable having a car I think.

I submitted the secondary on the 27th and the review process still has not begun on it. Erie began the review process the day after I submitted theirs. Think that's just due to the dean being gone last week, or is that a bad sign?

If August 27th, it could be a bad sign.

If September 27th, you are fine.

yeah, agreed! although if you submitted on Sept 27th and you're already freaking out, I think you're crazy! and even August 27th I wouldn't freak out just yet! i'd wait a week or so more before I would be worried!

cool! where are you flying in from? im gonna be flying from nyc. I haven't booked the ticket yet but i will probably do it soon.

hey guys, i dont know how to drive so it would definitely be better if i went land at the bradenton airport instead of tampa right?
