You're welcome, Docmon. 🙂 Keep up with e-mails and phone calls...it doesn't matter if you bug them. lol Half the time they don't even ask for your name when you call. Good luck!

So...my fiance and I just got an apartment in Vineyard Village. Anyone else living there? When are you all moving in? I will be heading up there on July 21. I am looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I am currently on the waiting list for starting in the fall and i have not received any news regarding my status. I have sent in several interest letters, a rec from a DO doctor, updated transcript, and an additional prof letter to add to my file. How can we find out our status? Has anyone been accepted off the current waiting list? And if so, could you tell me what your stats are so I could get a good idea if I should start reapplying for next year? Thanks!

Also, is it okay to email Elaine Morse and ask about my status or ask her about my chances of being accepted this summer?

Hey Docmon, I'm withdrawing from the class of 2010, hopefully that creates an opening for you. Goodluck.

I'm living in Lakeview. I'm gonna move in all my stuff this week and then fly home right after.

Thanks for the heads up studybug! I was just wondering when you were placed on the waitlist so I can get a good idea if I may be called soon/or at all? Thanks again...where are you going to school btw?

Yeah, I am curious about this too! Thanks for letting us know! 🙂

I'm up in Erie!! I got here about a week ago, the weather has been great. Just about any store you could want is all on Peach street, only a few minutes from LECOM. I've been having a nice time getting to know the area, but haven't had too much time to explore yet. When is everyone else coming up?

I'll be there about July 25th. Can't wait to get familiar with the city and meet all of you.

Do any of you have any new information regarding school and what we should be expecting from the first semester?

Anybody have updates regarding the movement of the waiting list? Thanks! 🙂

They won't give out any information really. They just keep telling me to sit tight... 🙁

Hessian, where is this place at that has the bedroom available with a bathroom? Is her name Emilia? Maybe we are roommates and don't know it yet. Let me know. I currently rented an apartment of of Emilia which is above her three car garage. She also had two bedrooms for rent, each with thier own bathroom. Let me know if this is where you are renting.

I'll be moving in on July 1st at Mill Glen off of Kuntz Rd which lies off of Peach St. If you know of anyone looking for a place, I'm looking for a roommate.

I'm guessing orientation has to be professional dress code as well, right? And I'm assuming that just to walk in the door to get my id picture taken I need to be in professional dress? uuugggghhhhh!!!!

Anyone get any response from their "big brother/ sister" from the form we were supposed to send in? just curious.

Yup gotta be in professional dress because that will be your ID pic.

You'll get matched up with your big on the last day of orientation...at least that is how it was 2 years ago

I'd like to know this as well! Since the school's library closes at 11PM. I plan to study everyday from 6 to 11 for a total of 5 hours and more on the weekends. Is that okay to more than pass the class?

Hey

I paid attention in class so I actually got something out of it. Sometimes I drifted. I do have to say that I NEVER pulled an all nighter and was in bed every night by 10-11pm. I would come home from class, grab dinner/snack and hit the books. I'm very good with time management so I made sure I got to see all my favorite TV shows. Yea there are nights when you just CAN"T study. I hit it pretty hard on the weekends. Got up around 8-9am and studied until 7pm or so with breaks. You'll here people say that you have to make time for yourself each day and find something you enjoy doing. I thought that was nuts how could I NOT do that...it's tough. You'll have to pull yourself away from the books or you will go nuts.

In LDP there will be plenty of days where you get out at noon or just have a 3/4 day. That makes a huge difference. Some classes you have to put in the extra time and other classes you don't study that much for. It all depends on your strengths and weaknesses.

Don't expect to pass every exam/quiz/practice. At one point you'll fail something or come close to it. Nobody's perfect. All the pre-meds are used to getting straight A's. Some of you will struggle with getting your first C. It happens and get past it.

Feel free to PM me at any time.

This was last year's assignment: http://www.lecom.edu/physmed.pdf

Haven't heard about this year's, however.

Hey! We (my girlfriend and I) just got here last Thursday!!! We've spent all weekend moving stuff into our apartment in Belle Village. I didn't know before I moved in, but my neighbor is a second year, so that's a plus! Where are you at? You should PM me se we can get together and have a beer or something. 🙄 Yep, I've made about 6 trips to Peach Street for various items... I thought with all the crap I had stuffed into the U-Haul that I wouldn't need to buy anything else - I was WAY off!!!

Does anyone suggest buying a backpack/laptop carrier? Or is it better to just buy a laptop carrier and keep your books in your locker? Sorry, I'm pretty ignorant about this and I don't want to spend a lot of money on something I don't need. I ended up going with a laptop that has a widescreen (17") which sounds like it'd be really huge and heavy but it's actually extremely light and thin. However, I looked at Fry's electronics and couldn't find any backpack-laptop carriers that could hold a 17-incher but that doesn't mean there aren't any anywhere else. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm also interested in an answer to this! I bought a 17 inch labtop, and am wondering where to get a carrier? suggestions? Thanks!

Try this: http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...304027&Cn=Accessories_Notebook_Carrying_Cases

I purchased a soft neoprean-like case which I can then shove into my backpack or into a briefcase-like bag if needed. I bought mine on the internet because I am cheap and like to price shop, yet for some reason always spring for shipping. Anyways, it is a case logic brand protective sleeve, similar to the NCLE-2 from the link below.

Did anyone else get the stuff about orientation today? It says that we must be in professional dress for all activities but business casual is allowed for bowling. Can someone please answer this question for me....What is the difference between professional dress and business casual?

Thanks to FutureDocDO and FieldDoc!

Professional dress is full suits for men and skirts/slacks, blouses, suits, or dresses for girls. Business casual is khakis, polo shirts, skirts/slacks, blouses.

Wait so we have to dress up like we did for our interview for orientation? I think orientation is like 5 days.

5 days huh? Ladies, you need to stay clear of us guys from day 3 to 5!!! I'm pretty sure most guys don't have 5 suits to wear for each day of orientation, including myself. What's that stench?

I'm thinking nice tie and shirt, with pants is what they are looking for. They wouldn't expect us to wear a suit for five days.... right? If so, i only have one

Orientation is only 3 days, so you should be fine! 🙂

Everyone needs to quit stressing about the dress code. For the guys just wear nice slacks/pants with a shirt and tie. Don't forget the tie but the rest is really variable.

And for girls who think flip-flops are ok, they are not. You will be stopped at the door and sent home.

If i needed to defer admission one year to do a masters, how would i do that? who would I have to call and are there certain steps i have to go through???

Sorry if I stressed anyone out about the dress code stuff! That's just what I have usually seen professional dress as for guys...but a nice shirt and a tie and pants are just fine!

NUcat1 said:

Dr Trek1 would have an answer as LECOM accepted his defer request. I would assume you have to write to them explaining your reasons for requesting a deferral.

Congrats to all of the incoming LECOM students. I am a current graduate in LECOMs Class of 2006. Enjoy the great feelings you have about entering the field of medicine. Those feelings pass soon after the first day of class. The honeymoon will be over and the work will begin. You won't feel those feelings again until graduation day... at least not to the same extent. I can tell you it feels even sweeter once you walk across that stage. Of course, my honeymoon is soon to end as well, with first day of residency starting this week.

Anyway, if any of you are still looking for a place to live, you may want to check this place out. <www.geocities.com/rob1175> Contact information is on the website. Again, congrats and best of luck. Its a great journey. 😉

Contary to popular belief, medical school is not all that depressing and you are still happy and proud to be in the field of medicine throughout it.

what are most girls planning to wear to orientation/classes? I'm a super casual person so I'll probably take it as casual as I can get. When I worked in a private doctor's office I could get away with khakis or other casual but nice pants, along with a button down shirt (un-tucked!!) or polo shirt. Is this feasible? What about nicer tee shirts (not logos)???? I really don't plan on getting too fancy--how about everyone else? I know the tie thing is annoying for guys, but at least you know exactly what you're supposed to be wearing!
