I don't think your problem is knowing what to wear. It's just because you ladies can manipulate the rules while us guys can't. 😉 If you want to make it simple for yourself you can always wear business attire (i.e., suit and blouse with high heels?).

I was wondering about the dress code for girls, too. I think that as we go along we'll learn what is allowed and what is not. I would say a nice, plain tee shirt with a pair of dressy pants will fly too. I have been wearing scrubs to work for the past 6 years and then mostly casual clothes, so I had to do some shopping for clothes for our school's dress code.

You will not get away with the T-shirt thing. I would rethink your idea of going super casual. I can tell you that you will be talked to during orientation and probably at the door. LECOM does not hesitate to let you know if your clothes are not business - especially if Dr. Sylvia sees you. Just be aware of what is acceptable and what isn't.
 
I would wear a nice dressy t-shirt and never had a problem with it. It didn't look like a tshirt, just a plain shirt. Button down shirts and dress pants are fine. Same with polo shirts.

Just don't wear open toed shoes!!!
 
I don't see the big deal. Just get used to dressing business casual and business formal. You will be doing it for the rest of your life. It will also give you more self confidence.

The problem is "business casual" is very vague for women. What is appropriate in one place may not be appropriate at LECOM. I'd be interested to know what current/foremer LECOM female students wore. Obviously I get the no open toed shoes. For a button down shirt, does it have to be tucked in? What if it is shorter and difficult to tuck in?

Anyone check the LECOM student manual for their specific regulations for the dress code?
 
Best way is to look at the pictures posted in the "news" and "events" sections on LECOM's website. There are tons of pictures of events you can look at to get an idea of what's acceptable.
 
So did anyone get the information in the mail from the class of 2009.....some pretty interesting stuff.

Hey C/O 2010, congrats for getting in, we can't wait to meet you all! As for the dress code question that I see, it is a little harder on guys than girls. Yes, there are some things you can't get away with, but the majority of the girls had no problems with any faculty as long as they looked nice (i.e. khakis and polo shirts) Truthfully, the dress code is a bend but not break philosophy for ladies at LECOM. They will tell you they will send you home, but as long as you aren't wearing flip flops and wrinkled up clothes you will be fine! Feel free to ask me anything, I'll be glad to help! But guys, gotta wear the ties, no way around it.

It was just a profile of the class of 2009 and it listed a bunch of suggestions on how to survive medical school and such. There was also a list of clubs, an order form for a "Class of 2010" T-shirt, and a paper about SOMA.

The Goonies is my favorite movie! Maybe we could have a Goonies get together before school starts!
 
I can't believe orientation is less than 3 weeks!!!!! where did the time go? I don't think I'm mentally prepared to start studying again :scared: :scared:
 
I know I must seem like a complete and utter crazy person when I post this but I am actually excited to get back to studying again! I am a dork I know but I have been able to enjoy these last few months, working only about 10 hrs/week and partying and relaxing the rest of the time!! (I'm sure people probably hate me for that last comment 😉 I'm the type of person that needs some sort of schedule though and I tend to get antsy when I have a lot of free time on my hands and don't know what to do with it. However, I've been squeezing in as much fun as I possibly can this past month so far and am planning on squeezing in some more before it's time to hit the books! 😀

Thank you!! I look forward to meeting everyone as well. I'm excited about orientation and getting to know many people who I will be spending the next couple of years with (at least). However, I probably will be kind of dragging because my brother's wedding is Saturday, the 29th and I'm a bridesmaid. I'm going to try to limit the alcohol consumption though 🙁 and try to have as much fun as I can at the reception while putting in some solid sleep as I will have to get up at the a** crack of 4:30 to be there on Sunday at the appropriate time (I'm from Indianapolis). My mom said that she will be doing nothing but crying that weekend since her son is getting married (happy tears) but her daughter is leaving her. My mom tends to be a little dramatic. Looking forward to meeting everyone!
 
Did anyone take the online orientation sessions yet? If so, do you know what "certificates" we are supposed to print out when we're done? I took the first one, but no certificate came up! 😱
 
Scratch that, when you complete all of sessions, there's a form you can fill out that sends your information to the school!

This summer has flown by! I'm excited to meet everybody and get started!

Yeah I noticed no certificates came up. I just printed each of the pages with how many I got correct and the final form at the end just in case they want to see that when we pick up our IDs.

You have to read a bunch of rules regarding security, parking, badge colors, which doors to enter and exit and how, etc... then take a quiz. You have to pass.

when did everyone get this? I have not recieved any info about this in the mail... any info would be helpful!
 
I know it's REALLY early to be asking this question and most people might not know this but am I correct in concluding that we can only do our core clinical rotations at specific LECOM-affiliated hospitals but can do our electives at any site we want? I'm not so sure that's right but it seemed like that's what the website said. I'm sure I'll be finding this info out later but I'm just too curious to wait! 🙄

should our guests at the open house be in lecom dress code as well? I'd assume so to be on the safe side, but that seems a bit excessive.

from what I understand you can do all your rotations at ANY hospital. HOWEVER, for elective rotations the hospital only has to accept YOU. If you want to do a core rotation at a non=affiliated hospital, they have to agree to accept any LECOM student from that point on. That's my understanding anyway.

How did people find out about the online orientation? Did you get something in the mail? All I got was the packet about the 2009 class profile and the clubs/organizations--nothing about an online orientation!!?? 😱

I received the orientation information a few days after the class profile. So you should be getting it soon!?!?! :luck:

Hello all,
I guess I'm one of the last ones into the class of 2010, as I just received the phone call from Elaine yesterday morning. My name is Jeremy Johnson, and I guess I'll be meeting a whole lot of you at the openhouse and orientation. I plan on heading out to Erie on the 27th, as I have an appointment with security for all of the pictures etc on the 28th. Haven't had much of a chance to look for a place to live, so if anyone is looking for a roommate, or knows of a decent area to live, I wold appreciate a heads up.
 
I don't even know if I'm posting this right, I find this site kinda tricky... But anyhow, my name is Sarah Kate. I'm from Toledo, OH, going to be class of 2010 too. Just found out like 1 1/2 months ago I got in, due to a mail mixup I didn't get my letter from january til then! So... anyways, just wanted to say hi to everyone. Hope everybody will be cool and easy to get along with. Moving to PA w/my boyfriend and I will definitely need to make some friends there! 🙂
 
just curious as to where people are going to be living. I'm going to be @Royal Villa on w. 38th (if they will ever get back to me to tell me when the current tenant is moving out-- my lease starts 8/1 but I want to move in like next weekend!)

I'll be a senior this coming fall, finishing my undergrad. Right now, I'm in the application/interview stage of everything. I'm applying to LECOM - Bradenton and I just wanted to get some input on what it's like. I also was trying to find out what their stats are for those taking the boards. THIS is totally untrue. You can actually do a core rotation at a non-affiliated hospital without them taking anyone else. You just have to have a decent reason to want to rotate at that hospital and get it approved before hand. They just do the rules/regulations to cut down on the extra paperwork so the majority of the students stay with the affiliates. The rules are bendable you just have to get permission ahead of time and do all the calls to get accepted on the other end before requesting the site on the LECOM end. It's pretty easy since there are so many LECOM students to place for rotations. Anyone have any questions be sure to PM me if you need help.
