Congrats on your acceptance! It seems like only yesterday when we started the class of 2010 thread. Three months in and still going strong...

If you have any questions about the school or Erie, shoot me a message!

No one else?!?! Come on I know I am not the only one. Hey Dorkus, is there anything i should ask my parents for for christmas that would help for next year??

Wheres the love?

I got my interview coming up on the 20th, hopefully afterwards I'll hear some good news from Erie!

Buy a Wacom tablet so you can write on the all the wonderful power point slides that will soon become your life.

cheers!

I got accepted at LECOM last month! Everyone was really nice there and I enjoyed meeting Dr.Wise and students. Unfortunately, i don't think I will be able to accept the offer as I was recently accepted to CCOM! So I am relinquishing my spot and I hope someone gets the chance to interview and go there in pplace of me! Sorry you probably wont be my future classmates, but we will be the D.O. Class of 2011 still!

bump, any more acceptances here?

hey i am kinda surprised that there are not more people on this thread....last year class had alot more....c'est la vie

I've been accepted into LECOM, but I'm going to decline the acceptance since I've been accepted into a school I would rather go to. My LECOM experience was.... interesting, and a big reason why I decided not to go there is because of the little tiny plane that I would have to take to get there.

Drive, or take AMTRAK. I hope I get an acceptance after my interview coming up. Good luck though at whatever school you matriculate at!

So I got into LECOM, and there is a pretty good chance I'm going there. I've also been accepted somewhere else - so is it a bad idea to base my decision largely on tuition/cost of living?

no, that is totally legit.... that is a big reason why I am choosing LECOM. I too was freaked out about the tiny plane and when i walked out to the plane I almost passed out. When i do fly to Lecom i am flying into cleveland! hahah but i am serious! Good luck bkpa..i hope to see ya next year

Ceb,
Likewise! Hope to see you. Living is soo cheap compared to us NY'ers. That is a really big plus and I liked it overall as well. Did you apply to NYCOM ?

yeah seriously...living in ny is sooo expensive. I applied to NYCOM but haven't heard anything from them. I am not a NY resident so i am not getting my hopes up....I really liked erie when i interviewed and Iwant to get back to a small town setting for awhile. I have also heard some negative stuff about NYCOM from some of the docs that I shadowed. Let me know what happens with LECOM, it will be nice to have another person who went to college in NY. Best of luck

Definitely man, I got an interview for NYCOM on the 30th but I'm leaning towards LECOM if they accept me. I need to get away from the maniacs in NYC lol. Please pm me things you know about NYCOM if you don't mind, I'd appreciate it because it's always good to know the positive and negatives and find the truth between the both. Thanks alot and I'll definitely let you know if I get in to LECOM-Erie.

Here are some words of wisdom for your first year, from me, a current first year:

1. If you are LDP, don't buy books!!! You won't really have time to read them, and everything you need to know is presented in the Powerpoints. If you do need to find answers about something, you can ask your professor or simply look it up on line, but books are definitely a waste of money. If you do decide you want/need them, you can buy mine!!! I think the Anatomy book and an Atlas are helpful, but nothing beyond that. (I think I opened my Physio, Biochem, and Histo books once the first week of class, but that's about it. Needless to say, I wasted a few hundred bucks).

2. As someone stated before, if you want to take notes directly on your computer, I'd recommend a Wacom Tablet that you can plug in to your laptop, or get one of those fancy Tablet PCs. The anatomy lecturers tend to require a lot of drawing or filling in the blanks. Granted, you can use the ol' paper and pen method if that's your preference, but I prefer everything on my computer.

3. As for Christmas presents... I really can't think of anything that you absolutely need. If you're low on ties, dress clothes, etc., definitely get some of those 🙄 as LECOM likes to enforce the rules. Just plain cash is always nice too - for stress relief at the bars, food in your tummy, etc.

I think the only things I consider necessities are dress clothes and a laptop. A lot of people don't even bring their laptops to class, as they prefer to take notes by hand (we have note service as well). But some classes are super boring, so a laptop keeps me sane with the latest football updates! Welp, let me know if you have any more questions!

BRILLIANT!:meanie:

I was invited for an interview on 11/18. This is my first one. I have about a 7 hour drive from Ohio. I'm pretty excited to finally have something materialize after waiting for so long.🙂 Any tips or experiences people want to share who interviewed or were accepted?

Hey all!

I will also be a member of the c/o 2011!! I chose the ISP track. I know that everyone kind of has the same first semester, regardless of their track. I also know that LDP is the default track. So I guess my question is that if I decide I enjoy LDP (from my exposure to it in the first semester), will it be easy to switch from ISP to LDP? I hear it is no problem to switch to LDP in general.

Thanks very much!

First off congrat medmusic!! I am glad to hear that we will be classmates.

Buckeye and bkpa good luck wth the interview. My only suggestion there is to have questions ready in the interview and reference the interview feedback section of sdn so you know what to expect. I would also be very social with the other interviewees. I thought that my interview at erie went really poorly(1st one) but i always had a smile on my face and chatted with and got to know the other kids interviewing. I am not 100% certain they noticed but hey i got in! haha.

Thanks so much dorkus, we really appreciate the insight....I am kinda surprised about the book situation?!?!

I have another random question... do any first years have time to have a job? I bartend in NYC and would love to continue that in med school.

Hey

I'm a 4th year from LECOM...let me know if you have any questions.

No job...if you are lecture you are going to be in class from 8-4ish, come home relax for a bit and by that time it's 530, and time to hit the books for a few hours. Medschool is a fulltime + a part-time job

Hey there, congrats to everyone who's gotten in! Just wanted to respond about the job... You will definately not have time for a job! There may be people that do it, but they are FREAKS! But seriously, you really won't have time if you are LDP or PBL, you might if you are ISP after Anatomy is over. But during Anatomy, you won't have time to do much outside of school and the occasionaly guitar hero escapade!

Hey Guys,
I had my interview yesterday and it was awesome! I don't know how to describe it but it felt as if it were only a conversation between us. I love the campus and the atmosphere and LECOM-Erie is definitely my 1st choice right now!

Hey MedMusic,

If you decide you want to switch into LDP from ISP, it will be a piece of cake. It's the other way around that poses problems. There's a huge waiting list for kids that want to switch from LDP into PBL or ISP. My friend and I both agree that taking what we know now, we would have both done ISP. However, lectures do have strong points - i.e. you can definitely tell when something is important because the professor will go over it a few times or simply say "This is very important" - both of which make for nice studying. Welp, I'm off to play some Guitar Hero II, let me know if you have any more questions.

I would agree with VB, Don - definitely no time for a job. However, I guess you could pull it off if you really wanted to. It'd be exhausting, but as long as I know where you would be bartending and giving me free drinks, I think it's a great idea!

I interviewed there on the 20th there as well. We must have met. I was the canadian in the grey suit.

What's going on man, I was right next to you. I'm the one from NY. I loved the school man and are hoping for the Primary Care Scholars Program.👍

$$ for Christmas would be your best bet. You don't get your first loan check until 2 or 3 weeks into the semester.

hi all. I'm interviewing next friday (dec 1) and hoping to get into the ISP track. LECOM is my first choice. Hope to be back on this thread soon as an official member :scared:

Bump, anybody else hear anything from LECOM?

I interviewed on the 9th and i just got my acceptance in the mail today!

Accepted!!!! Woo Hoo!! Who else is definitely going?

i don't get how it could feel like a conversation when a group of people is asking you a pre-determined list of nine questions and taking notes the whole time? I must have done badly. Rejection is surely imminent.... :scared:

I wouldnt worry so much about it, when I interviewed, I had the same thing, they asked me a set of scripted questions and took notes while I was talking, dind't really ask many follow up questions, but I still got in. And I declined my acceptance, so hopefully they can give you my spot.

too many times... Sorry! At least I edit my mistakes, eh?

You'll be fine Mies...

They have a sheet of 10 questions they ask at the interview, and depending on the interview panel you could have a very different experience! Some pannels(like our anatomy profs) would just ask you a question wanting the minimum answer that will fill the white area on their page! Others will talk and stray from the 10 questions... Their interview system is strange because they don't have that long to interview students and have certain answers they are required to get from you, so it may seem more like an interrogation than other interviews. Don't worry!!

Good luck!

P.S. word of advice for all newcomers next year, if in the future you ever say "God, I can't wait for Anatomy to be over!"... Stop, and realize that the crap is only hitting the fan! After that you get owned by Micro, Pharm, and Biochem all at once!🙂 I'm just beginning to realize this myself, and wanted to pass it on...

Congrats!

I would suggest that you don't start studying anatomy until you get in, but thats my own opinion. You will have PLENTY of time to study once your in medical school, just take a break for now and you'll catch up later. I had never taken anatomy before either, and ended up with a good grade in Anatomy, you'll be fine!! Taking some time off from studying before school would be better for ya, so you don't get burnt out!👍

Don't Lie Donvb...A head start is always a great idea. You just wish you could have started studying earlier....

Sorry to hear. I don't know I guess it varies. Personally I didn't stress it and ended up talking about cars and my thoughts about medicine in general. I didn't try to just answer the questions and that's all. I tried to be as genuine as I could and that really kept me at ease.

I'm sure you'll get in though, don't worry!👍

Anyone else (besides me) cutting it down to the wire? ie - deciding between Erie & somewhere else & haven't sent in their deposit yet ? 😱

Another phils fan! I love it 👍 I was just daydreaming in biochem about how much i need baseball back in my life. And yes, we are getting married, whether he knows it or not, lol. Actually, I made the name whilst watching a game, & he was pitching, so I thought it was appropriate. At this point I have narrowed my choices down to NSU-COM & LECOM. The fact that going lecom would leave me with much less debt in the end may in fact be the deciding factor. Good luck on your LECOM interview 🙂 ps- what is your icon?
