Still have more interviews coming up but wanted to weigh these two initial acceptances to figure out putting down deposits (LECOM's would be due soon).

LECOM
Pros
  • Cheaper
  • PBL (I think I'll jive with this learning style + more time to study on my own)
  • Older of the two

Cons
  • Bad location (far from family; would prefer to be farther south; chose Seton Hill location so S.O. can commute to Pittsburgh, but still not great)
  • Bad rep

LUCOM
Pros
  • Everyone was extremely warm and I feel like I'd be well supported
  • Close to family
  • Slightly better location for S.O.'s career
  • Greater likelihood for research than LECOM SH (both from the school itself and I've done research with labs nearby that I might be able to continue)

Cons
  • New school (first class graduated in 2018)
  • I know the med school is separate from the undergrad institution but the statements and actions of their former dean are.....
  • 13kish more expensive

Summary: Given that neither of these are ~stellar~ schools, what school do you think would give you the greater likelihood of success? I don't necessarily have my eyes set on a super competitive specialty, but don't want to limit myself if I do fall in love with one + would like to match into as good of a program as I can.

Please tell me you either are a LUCOM student or know one personally, since you’re stating their “rules” with such certainty.

Stop perpetuating this myth that LUCOM has “behavior police” behind every bush on campus.
I mean you don't have to be a genius to figure out that such a radical place like that will more than likely let their hate-filled ideology spill over into their medical school. It's there whether you see it or not.

Sorry if you're a student there or whatever but that establishment is pure evil.

Their COM handbook literally says that theyre expected to abide by the university code of conduct. In fact, in the handbook’s “non discrimination” statement, it literally mentions the bible, sexual orientation, and premarital sex.

“The College of Osteopathic Medicine accepts the teaching of the traditional biblical view with regard to sexual conduct outside a biblically ordained marriage between a natural-born man and a natural-born woman, which is incorporated into its Code of Conduct. Consistent with those teachings, the College of Osteopathic Medicine does not discriminate solely on the basis of an individual’s professed sexual orientation, but only with regard to accompanying sexual conduct or other actions that undermine essential elements of the University’s Christian mission.”

Do you really want to go to a school that teaches that dinosaurs roamed the part 5,000 years ago? LUCOM is the Caribbean of U.S. medical schools IMHO. I would rather go to PA school or become a nurse practitioner rather than get a doctorate from there.
