I know this topic has been discussed before, but i didnt find it when i searched....would it be ok if i took a bunch of easy community college courses in the summer, and had them transfer to my school to boost my gpa, or is that looked down upon during admissions?

I see nothing wrong with that. Though keep in mind that admissions may look at your science GPA separately.

Another option is to retake some of the classes in which you earned a C or less in. That will show the admissions that you have mastered the material.

I earned my B.S., but I did not have most of the prereqs completed (weren't part of my degree), so I am currently taking some courses at community college that I was missing. I had contacted the schools I am applying to previously and they said it was not a problem.

so you think it would be better to take an un-related super easy community college class like marine life or re-take a course i got a C in?, a science that has nothing to do with my major (marine bio) would still contribute to my math/science gpa right?

I wouldn't suggest taking easy non related courses because the point of taking advanced classes is to determine whether you'll be able to handle the course load in a graduate program. It only gets harder if you are accepted into a pharmacy school so why are you trying to take the easy route?

im not trying to take the easy route, i got a b in a calc and chem and wondering if i should just take the b's or retake for an a, or take classes for my gpa, pre p is all about gpa, once your in pharm school i guess its harder but u dont need a sky rocket high gpa

I don't think you need to retake courses that you received a B. Maybe courses you received a C or less. By retaking prereqs that you received lower grades in you are hitting two birds with one stone. You get to prove you've mastered the courses that pharmacy schools deem most important and you get to raise your gpa with improved grades. It all get averaged in the end. Do what ever you are most comfortable with. 🙂

This is what will happen:

"A+ in remedial volleyball?!?! That's actually a class? Well, we'll just throw that one out!"

And community college classes aren't necessarily easy. The hardest, most demanding class I've ever taken was at a community college.

There's a balance between joke easy classes and the most difficult theory courses. Find that balance.😉

No offense but the adcoms are paid to weed people like that out. In no way do I mean to be a jerk but by asking if you should take easy classes to boost your gpa, that kind of tells the adcoms something about you. Think about it, right now there are people retaking some upper division Chem and Bio courses to help boost their gpa and re-taking their hard science classes they didn't quite do so well in. I am just putting things into perspective.

What is behind the GPA is not shielded, Adcoms see all your classes, it is easy to tell when the only thing keeping your GPA decent are Bac Core/mickeymouse classes. That is why PharmCas is kind enough to calculate your Science GPA for you.

I'm glad I didn't have to go through PharmCas. How do they know which classes are averaged into the science GPA? I've taken some hard Psych class, so that makes me curious.

I have had Anthro class that was pretty hard too. There are guidelines for what gets factored with what. Plus the school has your transcripts anyway.
