If it makes you optometry peeps sleep a little easier, large, outdated, closed-in malls are becoming a thing of the past. At least here in so cal, the most successful retail centers have become the outdoor promenades such as the 3rd street promenade in santa monica, the block of orange, and an absolute new favorite of us angelinos is the faux italian square called The Grove.

Also, in santa monica, the santa monica place, which is a mall located about 500 feet from the santa monica pier and pac ocean is about close down and make for an extension of the 3rd street promenade retail shops and housing.

I know personally, I like to be out in the fresh air shopping, eating and running other errands such as picking up my contact lens cases. And because most of these retail areas are boutiques, a sanitary lens crafters just doesn't fit in. That leaves room for the cosmopolitan and perhaps a little upscale optometrist to open up a flashy place called something like.... Eye Candy (corny but u get the pic). I know there aren't many places like santa monica or west LA or south fl, around but believe me, in nice places like so cali, there will be a change.

Same thing is happening in Salt Lake (The Gateway). I saw one in Denver as well and I believe the store was called "Europtics"
