It's definitely not tested frequently. I'm not sure if we have to know it, but I never bothered learning it.

I don't think I've seen it on an AAMC practice test yet.

I did see it on a TPR practice exam, but it was given in a passage.

AAMC I think asked about something that was a relatively simple equation though. Something about focus or magnification.

Know the concept of the lens maker equation. The application that I've seen a few times is how does increasing/decreasing the difference between the indexes of refraction impact the power of the lens? Pretty straight forward.
