I recently looked at one of my LES statements and noticed that it says that I have 2 years of service. Obviously that means that they are counting time since I commissioned, which was June of 08. I know this doesn't count towards my payback, but do I get paid as an O3 with 3-5 years of service or an O3 with 0 years of service once I graduate? Also, if I was to complete 20 years of active duty time, would I actually retire with 24 years of service?

That may be correct for your reserved pay, but not for your AD pay. You should be paid as an O3 with 0 years when you graduate. Notice I said should. Sometimes the wrong date is entered and you start getting paid like you have some time in. Your orders when you enter AD should have a date on them for finance to use. Keep a close eye on this.

I've told several new Captains this. If you are getting paid as a Captain with anything over 0 years and you have no prior service, your pay is wrong and DFAS will recoup their money. Some have chosen to ignore the advice and after 2 years of incorrect pay, DFAS came looking for their money and caused some financial issues for the member. If you are getting overpaid, start putting that amout aside and contact your finance office right away.

As for your stipend pay, I can't say for sure how you should be paid. Your recruiter or your HPSP advisor for your service should be able to tell you.

It will be 20 years. You don't get constructive credit for dental school any more. Only Pre-DOPMA folks got that and that ended decades ago.
