less competitive rads programs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Cuts you finding any chicks in Shreveport playa?

Cuts, can you tell us your step 1 scores, grades, med school, etc?

Hello, I'm new to the board, which seems to be really helpful. I am an MS3 IMG (carib) with 225/91 on step 1 and several pubs.
Are there any rads programs that might look at me? Any suggestions I should follow to increase my competitiveness? Thanks very much for your time. 🙂

Yeah... all the ones that gave me interviews !

They are... St. Francis Chicago, St. Joe's Phoenix, St. Luke's Milwaukee, Beth Israel Newark, U Missouri Columbia, and LSU-Shreveport. Other than BI Newark though I thought all these programs were good and would have been very happy at any one of them. What I'm saying is that I don't think "less competitive" necessarily means "worse."

Hope this helps... good luck.

Hi Dr. Cuts,
What's wrong with BI Newark? I am applying in the tristate area for radiology.
Thanks.
Ally

I've just recently started volunteering in a community hospital radiology department. They use a program called PACS Scan or something like that to transmit files to a different facility for evaluation by the radiologists. Is this what you're referring to when you say PACS?

Cons: very bad neighborhood, no PACS, minimal teaching (mostly self-learning), ordered us cheap pizza for lunch during my interview

Pros: IT'S RADIOLOGY

Thanks!
I can't be very choosy anyway as I am an FMG. 🙂
Did they have any foreign grads in the program?

I think all the residents I met were IMGs... many were from SGU (Carib) since that school's students rotate through BI Newark.

That gives me some hope although I am an IMG from Europe. I know that it is better to be USIMG for matching into rads but at least I have a green card...
Thanks.

I did a lot of research at that hospital as a college student. A few thoughts about the place.:
Although its in Newark, its in the better part as opposed to UMDNJ
The hospital is pretty nice and most of the people seem to be non malignant (as opposed to UMDNJ)

I hope they will call me for an interview. I don't care much about the area where a hospital is located but I want a place where people get along well.
