Yes, but it hardly a nail in the coffin. A good MCAT score can really do wonders for a lot of applicants especially if they have a borderline subpar performance. Plus certain grade deflating schools like MIT still have high placement even though their gpas are not steller.It's not about the collective, but what are the stats at each school. In addition, the collective stats get skewed by the lucky state schools, which together have lower GPAs.
It also doesn't take into account reinventors.
This persons stats do not exclude them from admittance to an MD school, they are not optimal, but a strong MCAT performance can definitely open doors.
