Well, if it is a mistake, they can certainly revoke your acceptance, but if it has your name on it and everything, I doubt it's a mistake. Others here are confirming that it has happened before, so I'd be less worried and more excited!
 
Has anyone talked to ABP today about when Trinity and UCD will be letting us know? Or is it still just "within the next few weeks"?
 
To answer my own question (feel free to laugh), I just talked to ABP, and they said that several hundred UCD "regrets" have been decided, but I do not know if those letters have been mailed out yet.
Also, ABP said that Trinity expects to issue their first round of acceptances at the end of this week.
 
Aahhh.. good luck to us all with again. Its anytime now...:luck:

:laugh: Thank you for the update....although, I hope that I am not in the batch of "regrets". What a polite way of saying rejection. Omy, I shall return to my paranoid mailbox checking. I am very :scared: right now.

their response to me:

"Trinity College Dublin has issued any offers to their five-year medical degree course to date. Their admissions committee is running approximately 4 weeks behind their usual schedule due to an unexpected 20% increase in the number of applications received from the USA and Canada this year.

However, I am pleased to advise you that you are not amongst the hundreds of applicants to whom they have denied entry to date.

They have advised that they "hope" to issue offers of admission by the end of this month. Should you receive one, your acceptance package will be dispatched to you by surface mail as you did not request Federal Express service.

well ... i hope they aren't pulling our legs..i'll be pretty damn pissed/unimpressed if i get a letter from trinity right after paying my rcsi deposit. 😡 😡

To anyone that has contacted ABP:

I am going to suggest that they are giving everyone a standard answer to the question, "what is the status of my application".

My response was similar, that Trinity had sent out rejections but I was not amongst those sent out.

And UCD has not made decisions either positive or negative.

So unfortunately, you probably shouldn't read too much into their response...and just wait it out. No doubt, it is painful, but I am sure the notices will come soon.
 
I think you're right.

So no one here has been rejected yet from Trinity or UCD?
 
Actually, ABP are partially right. I didn't apply through there, so I contacted Trinity myself yesterday to ask about my application. She looked up my name and said "no, no decision yet". Then she re-iterated the fact that they sent out rejections a bit ago, and that they'll be making more decisions during this week
 
Havent posted on here yet, interviewed for RCSI 4 year program in New York and got my rejection letter yesterday. Still waiting to hear from UCD and UCC, was wondering if there is any news about UCC and when they should be sending out stuff. Though I am now starting to finish my applications for Caribbean schools, and I probably hear back from them sooner it seems.

From the medical students I know, they take a specialization in the Cdn system and after they graduate they leave to the states ($$). I can see why...but that causes specialists to become scarce.

On another note, anyone hear back from NUI Galway, for those who applied?

 
just wondering if anyone who got into the 6 year program next fall at RCSI is coming directly from high school, I know some people must be but everyone who said they got in seem to have done at least a year of an undergraduate. if you are coming from highschool let me know

I would like to formally apologize for a small discussion that occured on this board recently that i was a part of about some similarites in messages receieved from the ABP. As i'm sure we all know Mr. Keenan and the rest of the ABP recieves a huge volume of mail each day and what they say in each mesage is true, sincere, and responded too in a very fast time frame. The topic was not meant to be an attack on them in any matter, as we all have the utmost respect for them, it was just jovial chit-chat that was taken out of context....

Again i am deeply sorry, and good :luck: to us all in any further news concerning applications.
 
Hey friends. I spoke to TCD. They could not tell me too much, but they were very kind as usual.
Basically, all of our apps are at "different stages of the reviewing process". I was asked when I submitted my app.

What was taken out of context? And who was hurt by it? I do not think anyone is upset or thinks ABP is doing a bad job. At least I don't. I think it is simply what you said, that they receive large volumes of questions and fill each person in the best they can. It really isn't their responsibility to answer the same question 35 times and I think they give you all the information they can. We all just have to wait it out...just an unfortunate consequence of the process. ABP cannot do more than it already has. I do not think anyone was attacking ABP...rather everyone was just trying to find out where they stand with regards to everyone else. ABP is a wonderful service that allows applicants to consolidate all applications to the different schools in one.

I can confirm that UCD is indeed sending out their replies---in my case, I received a rejection letter today. And a thin envelope is never a good sign "sigh". Although it wasn't my first-choice school, a rejection is still a rejection and it hurts. 🙁 Good luck to all, take care:luck:

first the mcat scores and gpa are the foundation to your application, in general if they are up to par you have a shot, then its everything else on your application that takes you the the next step.
One thing that helps alot is believe it or not sport involvement, alot of medical schools like to know that applicants can say cooperate with people (like you would on a sports team) and your used to relating with peopl (all the social things that go along with it). Medical schools arn't just looking for people who can memorize a text, they want people who posses the character traits of a good doctor on top of the intelligence. Also Volunteering is huge, It shows that your compationant empathetic etc...... Great traits for a doctor to posses. Not to mention if you do both of the things i mention above it shows you can multitask which is key to becoming a good physician. On the admisiins essays dont ramble on about how being a doctor is all youve wanted to do since you were a kid, be specific if you have a personal experience (private or not) that drove you to this career say it. My father and mother had cancer, i talked about it in my essay, then during my interview the comitte specifically brought that up, personal stories like that make lasting impressions. Finally during the interview itself dont search for the yearbook answer on everyquestion they ask. The point of the interview is for the committe to get to know you, not listen to all the bull**** you memorized before hand. Sure do your homework and have alot of info in your head, but be honest and confident in the interview, say whats really on your mind, if you make it to this point they're trying to talk you into going to their school just as much as your trying to get it.... Anyways thats a few things that i found helped me...

Well, Trinity sent me the Skinny envelope this week (Tues). Last hold out is UCD. I expect that their skinny envelope is in the mail and just hasn't arrived here yet. My options now:

1. Go back to school for two years full-time. Lose my great paying firefighting job. Have a chance maybe to get an interview at a CDN med school if I get all A's.

2. Retake the MCATs and hope for a 30 or above. Reapply to Ireland. And possibly lose another $1000 in the process.

3. Get a transfer to Manitoba through my work and live there two years. Then apply as a manitoba resident and a special consideration candidate (because I am in the Canadian Forces). I meet the minimums for the Spec cons. entry. Lose a great house, friends, and have to start all over again.


Wow, when I put it that way, things seem nothing but optimistic!!!!

don't give up yet! you never know about ucd. also, in canada, do reapplicants have a good chance for acceptance? in the us i've heard that many schools look at reapplicants very favorably -- i have several friends who've gotten in the second time around... which i will be hoping for if ireland doesn't work out!! it's good that you have a lot of options open for yourself. don't worry! it will work out!
McDuck -- I bet there is some kind of lag in your online banking. I don't have it, so i'm not sure, but don't rule yourself out yet...

Sorry to all those who received rejection letters...just keep trying, if it is what you want, then taking longer to get there should be your least concern.

A question though. Has anyone contacted ABP recently to get an update? Have Trinity and UCD made decisions in terms of acceptances as well, or just further rounds of rejections? Did ABP say anything about if or when new decisions will be made?

Just like I said earlier, our apps are at different stages of the reviewing process so the fact that one person gets a rejection doesn't say too much.....they'll be going out periodically until....??

Hey Guys,

I wanted to update you guys about Trinity. I just got the fedex package 2 hours ago. Extremely excited and thankful...I'm amazed at how emotional I got. Since I've been trying for med school for soooo freakin long.

To those that heard bad news, be encouraged and keep going. It took me 3 long years of applying all over to finally get accepted. I applied to a whole bunch of Canadian schools, around 15 American last year. I swear I started collecting rejection letters. This year I finally tried the ABP program and my provincial Med school. So I'm thankful that the doors have finally opened.

Congrats eg!!!! A lot of us feel the same way....working to get into medical school is rough--emotionally. Up's and down's are the norm.

i contacted them and they have got the list of offers that needs to be mailed ie Trinity, but RCSI has their second round of interviews

Hmm....I wish I had that dilemma :laugh: I think that either school would be a wise choice.

They said, they will be mailing next week some time, and also they keep a bunch of application on wait list. Has any one heard about RCSI in Bahrain!
 
Has anyone heard anything about when second round interview invites will go out for RCSI?

Got my rejection letter from UCD today for the 6 year program:

"Your application for admission to UCD has been assessed by the Overseas Selection Committee.

I regret to inform you that it has been decided not to offer you a place in your UCD preference. There is keen competition for admission to Medicine and the standard required is consequently very high."

BTW, I am just finishing up my 2nd yr of B.Sc. but I ounno if that had anything to do with it. Argh. Best of luck to everyone!👍

Edit: The letter was dated April 12, 07.

Hey Mary, I just checked my mastercard account and there's nothing indicating a payment to ABP.

All the best guys. Just to remind you guys there's a lot of people that might reject their positions eventually if they get selected by their provincial/state med schools. I'm still waiting to hear from UBC, my first choice. Either way, best of luck to those waiting.
