Letter from UPitt

Hey guys and gals...
today i got a letter from pitt saying 'we like you. we don't have your s**t, but come for an interview'. They've given me some dates, and told me to call. I'm apprehensive as i really like the school and would rather warm up with some other interviews than with pitt. Anyone else get this letter?

Let me get this straight... you got an interview without them even having your AMCAS?

Luminox, From my experience, it is HIGHLY unlikely that Pitt offers anyone an interview without the return of a secondary considering they even screen before they send out secondaries. I'm sorry, but I just do not believe you are being truthful, especially if they do not have your s**t as you put it. For example, a friend of mine applied last year with almost unbeatable numbers and experiences and was only offered an interview after she returned her secondary. I also don't believe Pitt starts the interviewing process until November!

well I'll confirm the origional poster. I got the same letter today. I was invited for an interview at pitt. They said I had excellent credentials based on my amcas (which I sumbitteed 7/8 and was transmitted to pitt 7/19), and they said, "Their quality (my credentials) is such that I have insturcted my staff to arrange for an interview prior to Admission Committee members reading your completed application."

so I was shocked but I got an interview at pitt, believe it or not.

For those who have received the now-infamous Upitt interview invite, did you receive/send back the secondary first?

see the post of the other person that got the letter. I got the identical one. I'm sad to see you're so jaded that when someone says something you automatically dismiss it as false. Am i great- no. Did they really write me this letter (and no doubt many other people too)- yes.
I'm glad your mentality hasn't filtered into rural east texas.

Coop, you didnt send Pitt a copy of your printed AMCAS? From your response, it sounds like AMCAS transmitted your full app on their own.

Does that transmittal date make sense to you (i.e. was your app fully processed before 7/19)? I guess Pitt's electronic transmission must be working now.

Luminox is not lying. I got that same letter last year in August and interviewed there in September. It's a really nice school- should definitely give it a try!

i mailed them a printed copy per their request, then they sent me back a secondary which i got on sat. This letter came today. Mail is pretty slow around our area as there's only 1 mailman for the county. But it's all good.

Luminox, I do apologize, I have just never heard of such a thing happening. There also has been a plethora of BS flying around this forum lately, but I am happy to see that you are indeed not contributing to it. Life in the real world does make one jaded!

Well, someone in another thread suggested that the AMCAS delays might make schools emphasize more on the "numbers" this year. Perhaps this idea might have some substance afterall. It is unfortunate for those, like me, who do not have the high marks.

As UPitt's interview process now seems to lend credence to the Numbers Game theory, what were the numbers of those who received interviews (if you wish to disclose)?

Above MCAT 30, above 35? GPA over 3.5, 3.8? Just curious as this is the ONLY type of information UPitt has received thus far.

ok, coop's full disclosure:

I submitted amcas 7/8, it was "transmitted" to pitt on 7/19, it still has "N/A" in the "processed" section, so make of that what you will.

On 7/25 I sent in a paper copy of my amcas as instructed my other members of this site, thanks guys.

I am a hopkins ugrad, neurosci major, 3.8 gpa (oa and bcpm), 36 mcat.

I have been amazingly impressed with the info pitt has sent out, and I really respect their humanistic philosophy in reguard to both patients and med studnets. The letter says they start interviewing 9/10 on mondays, tuesdays, and fridays. I'll post the experience on interview feedback sometime after that. good luck to all

err, in the above message I meant to say,

Did those of you receiving secondaries get the invitation to apply that they sent out a few weeks ago? I think it was based on MCATs.

Also, I'm kinda curious if anyone with an interview has less than a 3.6-3.7 or 32-33 MCAT. Just checking to see if the interview invites are based on numbers alone.
